1 NOTE "The Portrait and Biographical Album of Rock County, Wis.",1889, p 722.
NELSON REYNOLDS, a respected citizen of Milton, was born inRensselaer County,N.Y., June 19, 1809, and is a son of Stephenand Mary (BOWLES) REYNOLDS. Bothhis paternal and maternalgrandfathers were natives of Rhode Island, and were descendedfrom English ancestry. Stephen REYNOLDS and his wife had afamily of nine children, all of whom are deceased, with theexception of Nelson, whose name heads this sketch.
Our subject was reared to manhood in his native State, where hereceived his education, and, on attaing mature years, was joinedin wedlockwith Miss Catherine SANDERS, of Berlin, RensselaerCo., N.Y. Their marriage was celebrated in that place in 1832,and unto them have been born four children, three of whom areliving; Lyman, the eldest, is a resident of Dakota; Maria ismaking her home in the State of Rhode Island; Charlie died atthe age of seventeenyears; and Arletta is residing in GreenBay, Wis.
In the fall of 1854 Mr. REYNOLDS resolved to move to the West, and, accompanied by his family, emigrated to Illinois, locatingin Peoria County. He there purchased a farm of 250 acres, whichhe engaged in cultivating for ten years, when, in 1865, he soldout and came to Rock County, Wis., reaching his destination inthe month of March. He bought a farm of 100 acres, and againresumed farming, which occupation he has followed continuouslysince, making his home on the land first purchased. When ayoung man of twenty years, Mr. REYNOLDS united himself with theMethodist EpiscopalChurch, and has ever been an active workerfor the interests of that denomination. While residing inPetersburg, N.Y., to him fell the choice of selecting ladies forteachers in the Sunday School. Those whom he secured to fillpositions were not members of the church, but within nine monthsall were converted, and became active members. While residingin Peoria County, Ill., he served as Superintendent of theSunday School, and for many years has been Trustee and Stewardof the Church of Milton. He is an earnest worker in hisMaster's vineyard, and hasborne an important part in theupbuilding of the church. Politically, Mr. REYNOLDS is aProhibitionist, believing that the suppression of the liquortraffic canonly be brought about by a national party. He is aworthy and valued citizen, held in high regard by his manyfriends, and is worthy of the respect tendered him by all. | Lyman Nelson REYNOLDS
