24236 RESIDENCES:
1930 - 3516 Highland Ave, Chicago, Illinois (per 1930 census)

MARRIAGE:
First married at age of 32yrs (per 1930 census)

The following is the source for this family group, however, I think there may be an error. There is a Frank A. Rozhon from Indiana with a daughter Eleanor and son Robert, but his wife's name was Mae Svatos. Frank later moved to Chicago and died there in 1949. The 1930 Illinois census shows Marie living with Eleanor and Robert and listed as divorced, so Mae might be Frank's second wife?

Horek, Rozhon - 02/24/99 02:36:09 My URL: My Email:kshenry01@ismi.net Country of Origin: Bohemia
Comments: Looking for information regarding Edward Rozhon. Family lived in North Judson, Indiana and later moved to Chicago. Had a son Robert Edward B. 12/20/1915 and a daughter Eleanor. Married to Marie Horek b. Aug. 1895.

Source for this family group is kshenry01@ismi.net. Listing found at distantcousin.com. Lived in North Judson, Indiana and later moved to Chicago. However, given name was stated to be Edward not Frank. Is this yet another husband?

22 May 2003: I've received a copy of Frank's obituary as listed in the Denni Hlasatel newspaper in Chicago. This obit may clear up the uncertainty about Marie's maiden name and whether she was married to Edward or Frank. The obit shows Frank was married to "Mae Svatos", so obviously, it must be Edward that is married to Marie Horek. But WHO is Edward? He isn't part of the family I already have recorded.

24242 Probably never came to U.S. Found in LDS records microfiche date Jul 88, Batch 7319022/63. Microfilm # 538,160.

LDS records also show possible marriage to Vincencie Kasparikova on 25 Mar 1834. But he married Vincentie Simeckova on 25 May 1834, so this could just be an error in transcription. Was not able to see the originals, only the translated version. Tvarozna is the church parish.

24244 OCCUPATION: Cabinet-maker. With Teska (?) made artistic wooden articles for Prince Schwarzenberg at Orlik Castle. Frantizek ROZHON

24245 First found this individual on a ship manifest for the Rotterdam out of Rotterdam, Holland. Arrived May 04, 1902 at NYC age 18 yrs. Last residence Radowa, Bohemia (RADAVA Czech Republic 4932 1410 lat=49.5333 lng=14.1667 40.3 miles SSW of Prague). This is the vicinity of old Vystrkov along the Vlatava River and suggests that this family is related to our Rozhon line. However, due to the large span of years between Ignac and Frantizek, it's possible that Frantizek is really brother to some other Ignac, but the fact that the Ignac I have him linked to lived on Burlington seems to suggest that he is the right one. Curiously, Emil Rozhon (found in OURS.PAF and may be in our direct line) is listed as being from RADOV. Are these perhaps one in the same locations? Ignac and Frantizek would then be "Brother 2 and Brother 3" from Emil's lineage that were known to have come to America.

Destination: His brother, I. Rozhon of 35 Burlington, Chicago, Illinois.

I've connected this Frank with Ignac since it seems too coincidental that a Frank of the appropriate age would be living on Burlington in 1910 (the same street Ignac lived on) that he wouldn't be related.
[Note 23 Mar 2004 - Frantizek's obituary mentions his brother, Ignatz, thus establishing that my guess was accurate.]

RESIDENCES:
1910 - 1719 Burlington Ave. (per 1910 Census)
1920 - 1519 So. Komensky Ave. (per 1920 census)
1930 - 1521 So. Komenski Ave., Chicago, Illinois (per 1930 census)
1948 - 1521 So. Komenski Ave., Chicago, Illinois (per Frank's obituary)

IMMIGRATION: Arrived 1901 per 1920 census, 1903 per 1930 census.

NOTE: In 1920, Frank had a nephew and niece living with him named Charles and Helen Kuchar. Both were married, so it's possible that Helen's married name is Kuchar and her maiden name is Rozhon. That would make her the daughter of Frank's sister or brother, of which we know nothing. She was born in Indiana, so we need to look for a Helen Rozhon born about 1899 in the 1900 or 1910 census for Indiana. So far, I've found nothing. The other possibility is that Helen is the sister of Frank's wife.

24246 RESIDENCES:

He may be the son of John Rozhon and Josefa Vrba. The age is right and the 1930 census shows that he was born in Illinois. (Update 15 May 2003: Yes, he is their son as confirmed by his wife's name and address and parents listed as John and Josephine Verba on his death certificate (on hand)).

associated in the database.
**********************

On the manifest for Kaiser Wilhelm Der Grosse she emigrated with her cousin(?) Marie Rozhon from Zadni Chlum, Bohemia. This is located just a few miles from Mokrice (east of the Vlatava River). Destination was 5631 Hamlet Ave., Cleveland (brother-in-law for Frantizka and aunt (Marie Nikodym) for Marie). A search was done for the 1910 census to see who lived at that address. The surname was NIKODYM. The head of the household was Marie who was a widow. An obit exists for this woman:
Name: Nikodym, Marie
Date: Feb 18 1931
Source: Source unknown; Cleveland Necrology File, Reel #060.
Notes: Nikodym: Marie, age 73 (nee Heil), beloved mother of E. I. Nikodym (Emil Nikodym), Mrs. E. Cipra and the late Louis, Monday, Feb. 16, 1931. Funeral Thursday, Feb. 19, from the late residence, 4299 E. 114th Street at 8 a. m. Services at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, corner Hamm and Dolloff Rd., at 8:30 a. m. Friends invited.
Marie Nikodym was born about 1858.
Note that her husband's name is not listed. I was also unable to locate a marriage record in the county index. So at the present time, I am unable to identify who this couple was and how Marie and Frantizka were related to them since Marie Nikodym's maiden name appears to be Heil thus not a Rozhon. Addendum Oct 2004: The 1900 City Directory lists a widow, Mary Nikodym at 5 Glazier St. and mentions that she is the widow of Ignac. Glazier is near Nursery on the southeast side off of Broadway.

5631 Hamlet was the first house east of the Olympia Theatre (which would be at the rear of the building.) A tailor shop (in the rear of the house) shows up on a 1912 map of the area. Mary (Heil) Nikodym's son was a tailor -- maybe her husband was too when he was alive? In 1900, the address would probably have been 27 Hamlet in ED #127 but the Nikodym family did not appear in the 1900 census on that street even though they would have already been in the USA.
