24302 BIRTH: Note that three different dates are recorded for John. His naturalization papers list 24 Dec 1880 but the 1900 census lists July 1877. Lastly, his WWI draft registration shows 24 Dec 1879.

Josefa ROZHON

24317 Birth place unknown -- not on death certificate in my possession, however, his wife was born in Zebrakov and they were married in Bohemia, so it's possible that he might be from Zebrakov, as well.

NOTE: IRAD website lists a couple with these same names as having married on 09/09/1889 in Cook County, Illinois. Are these the same people or a different Joseph and Mary? Or did they really get married in Bohemia? Did they just renew their vows in 1889? Their first child, Anna, was born Jan 1889, fully 9 months before they married. This information seems suspect to me.

1920 - Unknown
1930 - 3514 W. 24th, Chicago, Illinois (per 1930 census) dgtrs Jennie and Ella live in same house with their spouses.
Joseph ROZHON

24318 BIRTH: close to Karlstejn castle. Joseph ROZHON

24319 IMMIGRATION:
Arrived 1873 (per 1930 census)
Left Bohemia at age 25, journeyed through Germany to Bremen, and crossed the ocean on the steamship AMERICA. After a voyage of sixteen days landed in New York City. From NYC they went directly to Chicago, and arrived in that city May 16, 1873 less than 2 years after the great fire. Found employment with Mr. Fort as a laborer.

MARRIAGE:
ROZHON, JOSEPH & KRAL, BARBARA in Cook County on 01/25/1874 vol.086, License #00014627

Moved to Starke County, Indiana in 1888. Bought 120 acres in section 25 of Railroad Township. Built a frame house, cleared timber, drained a swamp, and created a farm. Bought another 80 acres to bring the total to 200 acres. Grew corn, oats, wheat and potatoes. Kept 7 horses, a herd of 25-30 cattle, large number of hogs. Farm buildings all painted red. Barn is 22x60 surrounded with granaries, corn cribs, and other outbuildings. [Source: HISTORY OF STARKE COUNTY, p 696-698]

CENSUS:
1910 - Railroad Township, Starke Cty, Indiana, ED 204, Sheet 5A
1920 - Railroad Township, Starke Cty, Indiana, ED 279 lists Joseph as a widower and his sons: Louis, Henry and Albert.
1930 - Railroad Township, Starke Cty, Indiana, ED 75-10, Sheet 5B, lists Joseph now living with his son Louis and Louis' wife Blanche along with Albert. Henry has married Helen and living elsewhere.

RESIDENCES:
1920 - 147 Lomax-Good Rd., Railroad Township, Starke Cty., Indiana.
Joseph ROZHON

24320 Living in Mobile, Alabama in 1910 and working as a shipping clerk at a lumberyard. Married for 15 years and no children in 1910. Joseph ROZHON

24321 Name obtained from his son, Joseph's, death certificate.

IMMIGRATION: Per his own obituary in the Denni Hlasatel, he had been in America 30 years by the time he died in 1915, thus must have arrived here in 1885.

IMMIGRATION: It's difficult to read the year on the 1910 census but it appears to be 1884, the same year as his son John arrived.

His obituary also lists two nieces, Bozena and Marta Rozhon who I am assuming must have also lived in Chicago at the time of his death. They must have been single in 1915 since no married names were provided in the obituary. It is unknown if his brother (the father of those two girls) was also in the USA or not. Nothing is mentioned in the obit about him.

RESIDENCES:
1904 - 820 18th Street, Chicago. (per his wife's obituary)
1910 - 177 Clark St., Hammond, Indiana (per census - living with his son, John and daughter-in-law, Martha)
1915 - 2826 Karlov Ave., Chicago (per his own obituary)

Notes transferred from what WAS family #10 but in actuality was part of Family #9.:
This may be the same person as is listed as Josef Rozhon married to Maria, with children Vincent, Anna, Josef, Maria, and Johann. The ages are similar. Johann (born 1879) may be the same person as John shown here as Joseph's son, or perhaps they had another child around 1885. Josef's family was found in the Czech Immigration Passenger Lists, Volume IX on pg 146. I was told that this family originally lived in Illinois before moving to Indiana. Census for Illinois might turn up something on them.

24328 The COMBAT TRACKER TEAMS of the Viet Nam War, were small, highly-trained units usually consisting of five men and a Labrador Retriever. They were a composite group and cross-trained, enabling all members to complete the mission. The purpose of CTT was to: reestablish contact with the "elusive enemy"; reconnaissance of an area for possible enemy activities; and locate lost or missing friendly personnel. The methods used in completing the missions were Visual and Canine Tactical Tracking. The unit was usually supported by a platoon or larger force and worked well ahead of them to maintain noise discipline and the element of surprise. ROZHON, JOSEPH died '70-'71 based at Fort.
