Article Text:
Linda Lillian Rozhon, a Berwyn attorney, was a first lieutenant in military intelligence in World War II.
Mass for Miss Rozhon, of Oak Park, will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in Ascension Catholic Church, 815 S. East Ave., Oak Park. She died Wednesday in Riverside Hospital, Kankakee.
''She was brilliant, dynamic and energetic,'' her niece, Barbara Sedivec, said. ''But, at the same time, she was very gregarious. . . . She was a graduate of De Paul University Law School. . . . She graduated magna cum laude from there. She was particularly proud of being accepted as a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.''
During World War II, Miss Rozhon was assigned to the adjutant general's office and did courier duty between the United States and Great Britain.
''It was fascinating to hear her tell of those trips,'' Sedivec said. ''The plane trips were often hazardous, flying just above the water to avoid detection. They were rough, she said, very rough.''
Near the end of the war, she was assigned to go behind the lines in Czechoslovakia. A notebook she kept from the time shows the names of six members of her team who were killed on one mission.
Survivors include a sister, Geraldine Kolarik

24368 The Sebastian Sun July 6, 1983
New flight school to open here By Shirley Tyler The Sebastian Airport Board of Directors met Tuesday and approved a plan to stripe the airport runways and to allow a new flight school at the Fly Florida Hangar on the west side of the airport. The new flight school, "Florida Skyways," will have eight planes for training in all phases of private pilot licensing, as well as commercial to airline pilot status according to the Austrian owner, Manfred Rozhon.

He said many of his students would be from Europe. Jack Drew of Fly Florida said the entire fixed base station and existing hangar he currently uses will be sub-let to Florida Skyways, inc. He will build another building for his airplane sales.and service and also operate another subsidiary busiiiess from the new building until plane sales pick up, exporting. The airport board also got into a lengthy discussion about the $10,000 rent owed by the Sebastian Municipal Golf Course. After remarks by each member of the board said Airport Director John Van Antwerp, it was decided that the golf course needed to be allowed some latitude until it had a chance to increase its revenues and that the airport didn't really need the money right away anyway. Some board members felt that a contract needed to be written and signed by all parties, but the airport director and board chair- man, Ed Paluch, said the agreement was in the minutes that the golf course would pay $10,000 per year rent plus 50 percent of the net profit and that was sufficient to make it a legal agreement. Van Antwerp said, "If we see the golf course is overspending then we can come down on them and cry foul, but right now, they need a break. We don't want to put an undue burden on one of our tenants. He said the matter had been turned over to the city attorney a long time ago; he would see where that stands. Pending approval from the city council, the board will ask DOT to stripe the runways, as they could do it cheap, efficient and fast. "I don't want to live with painters on my runways for months," Van Antwerp said, while recommending that DOT do the job. "They probably have more experience in this sort of thing than anyone else and would already have the lowest bid on the paint." He said it usually takes about 250 gallons of paint to do the striping properly. "That's a lot of paint, and a lot of labor. We don't want to have to go back and do the job again too soon if sub-grade paint is used. We would still be facing those labor costs again."

SOURCE: Wow, a first....I have never had an inquirly on this name before. My
information comes from my uncle who researched the Simecek family line via
a professional some years back. As I remember, the family stayed in the
same area for many generations....I recalll the towns of Radava and Stare
Sedlo...where these places are, I 'm not sure but I did locate tham on a
pre 1950 map of Czech. my mother had. According to the researcher, the
information came from Catholic Church records of towns that were later
covered by water when a dam was built. The family name is among my
earliest but, based on the family history of staying put so long, I would
guess they were there back then.
If you find any connection, I would deeply appreciate any info you
could give me. Neither familiar with the language or European history, I have
little to go on.

Matej ROZHON

24391 IMMIGRATION:
Arrived 07 Jun 1887 aboard the SS Eider out of Bremen, Germany and Southampton, England. Destination is given simply as United States of America. Place of origin is stated to be Bohemia. No other useful details appear on the manifest. The following are the individuals who appear together:
Rozhon, Matej age 50 male
, Josefa age 40 female, wife
, Franz age 9 6/12 male, son
, Johann age 7 6/12 male, son
, Maria age 5 female, daughter
, Ignatz age 3 male, son
, Barbara age 11/12 female, daughter
, Anastasia age 14 female, none (may be a relative of some sort but 'none' was what was actually listed.
Note that there is no James or Vincenc travelling with the family. He may have arrived earlier and would be quite older than his siblings.

I've listed Mokrice, Bohemia as his birthplace solely on the strength of the naturalization paperwork that was filled out by his sons, Frank and John (naturalized13 Oct 1904), where they listed that as their prior home. Mokrice is very close to Zahorany.

Matej's obituary states that he had two daughters-in-law at the time of his death. 1) Johanna; 2) Kristyna.

He was 89 years old when he died.

RESIDENCES:
1895 525 W. 18th St., Chicago -- Laborer (from City Directory)
1897 494 W. 18th, Chicago -- Cigarmaker (from CityDir)
1898 494 W. 18th, Chicago -- Cigarmaker (from CityDir)
1899 494 W. 18th (r), Chicago -- Cigarmaker (from CityDir)
1900 1298 Spaulding Ave, Chicago -- Cigarmaker (from CityDir)
1901 1298 Spaulding Ave, Chicago -- Cigarmaker (from CityDir)
1915 Baldwin, Michigan (per obituary)

There seems to be some sort of connection to James Rozhon (3.1) who also lived at the 494 W.18th address. In addition, James Rozhon, Jr. lived at that address. Michael had a son named Vincene who never married and later moved with his father to Michigan. James, however, is associated with a Jan as his father, not Michael, so who is Michael and how are they related (if they are, at all?)
