1 NOTE "Old Tobe: Some Lines of Descent of Tobias SAUNDERS of Westerly,Rhode Island"; by Earl P. Crandall; Higginson Book Co.; 1995, p27, 55.
The family moved to Berlin, NY in the fall of 1796 and thenmoved toSweden, NY 23 Feb 1811. Peleg was a casualty of thewar of 1812.

After selling his farm to his brother Charles, Peleg moved hisfamily from Westerly R.I. to Berlin, Rennselaer Co., N.Y. in thefall of 1796. On about 23 Feb 1811 they moved west to Sweden,Monroe Co., N.Y. where he bought a 290 acre farm. In 1814,during the war, a General Izard(?) was marching to Niagara todefend the frontier against British forces in Canada. Hepressed Mr Saunders's teams, and Mr. Saunders accompanied him totransport provisions to Fort Erie. Peleg became sick with whatthey called Camp Distemper and he died at Fort Erie on 28 Oct1814, aged55 yrs 1 mo. and 24 days. Their son Rowland tookcharge of the farm.

1 NOTE "Westerly and It's Witnesses", by Rev. Frederic Denison A. M.,published by J. A. and R. A. Reid, 1878, p230.
"Westerly hasoften bowed in deep sorrow over the loss of hersons at sea. A few years since, her tears were elicited afreshin respect to the fate of Capt. Peleg Saunders, and his mate,Erastus Bliven. Captain Saunders, born Oct 16, 1820, afterspending15 years at sea, in different positions and commands, sailed in 1856, as masterof the ship "Mary and Jane," from NewYork to Dundee, in Scotland. On his return voyage, loaded withNewcastle coal, he was disabled, and obliged to put backto Corkfor repairs. Sailing again in November, 1856, he was neverheard from.It is believed that the severe gale that shortlyafter swept over the North Atlantic, caused the foundering ofthe ship. The age of Captain Saunders was thirty-six; that ofMr. Bliven, twenty-six. As Captain Saunders was an exemplaryman, kind and faithful in every office of life, and rose to hisposition by his ability, assiduity, and integrity, he wasgreatly mourned. He left a widow and threedaughters."
