1. Phineas was an officer in the French War, 1745-1755, and in theRevolutionary War. In 1745 he was a lieutenant on a list of general andstaff officers of French and Indian War rolls. He served as captain inthe Cape Breton Campaign in the war with the French. In 1755 he was acaptain in the 4th Connecticut Regiment at Crown Point and appointedCommissary March 1756. In 1758 he was Commissary of the 8th ConnecticutRegiment. He was Deputy to the General Assembly at New Haven in 1768.

1. Phineas served in the War of 1812 as a Major on the staff of GeneralPeter Porter. He moved from Vermont to Skaneateles, Onondaga County, NewYork, and then to Wyoming, his future continuos home. During the War of1812 he served in eleven fights. During the Battle at Black Rock hisbrother, Eldredge, was killed while fighting under his command. AtQueenstown Heights, while going to the aid of Lieutenant Colonel WinifredScott, Phineas Stanton was severely wounded, and at Lundy's Lane he wascaptured and held prisoner for eleven months. During the War he was aMajor on the staff, after the war he was placed in command of all thetroops of the State militia in Western New York with the rank of MajorGeneral.

RUSSELL STANTON (1799-1875)

Russell Stanton, sixth child of Henry and Martha
(Davis) Stanton was born in Norwich, Connecticut, April 20,
1799. Russell married Lucy C. Northway in 1841 in Caton,
New York. Lucy was born in Vermont, in 1809.
Their oldest child, Francis Russell Stanton, was born
in Caton, New York, February 8, 1843.
Russell and Lucy moved to Illinois between February,
1843, (Francis' birth) and November, 1844 (daughter Martha's
birth). Their three daughters Martha, Lucy and Mary were all
born in Illinois between November, 1844, and June, 1851. (Stanton Genealogy)
The family was still living in Kane County, Illinois,
in 1860 Federal census, 1860). It was here that Francis enlisted in the 8th
Illinois Cavalry on September 12, 1861 (Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Illinois, 1901).
In the 1860 census, Russell listed his occupation as
"farmer". In the Stanton Genealogy, he is described as "a
baptist, a farmer, a Whig, and a Republican."
He died in August, 1875. His wife, Lucy, was still
living in 1891 (Stanton Genealogy).

Evelyn Holdridge - 1989
Funeral arrangements have been completed for Evelyn M. (Startz)Holdridge, 82, of 1051 Poquonnock Road, Grotton, formerly of PequotAvenue, Mystic, who died Sunday, Dec. 31, after a brief illness. She wasthe wife of the late Maurice Holdridge.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 11a.m. in the DinotoFuneral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic. Interment will follow in Elm GroveCemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home are today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mrs. Holdridge was born in Stonington on Dec. 18, 1907, daughter ofFrank and Alice (Bogue) Startz. She attended Stonington schools.
She was a member of the Old Mystic Baptist Church and the MontvilleVFW Auxillary. She was also an active member of the Groton SeniorCitizens Center.
Mrs. Holdridge travelled extensively until her illness, and she hadjust returned from a vacation in Florida with her family.
She leaves three daughters, Dorothy L. Smith of Groton, Allice Bougeof Mystic and Dolores McCorkle of Edgewood, Fla, 18 grandchildren, 46great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
