Dad was inducted into the Army on Sept. 22,1943 at Plattsburgh, NY.,and
given the Service Number 32-943-870. He was first placed in Co.I, 3rd
Battalion of the 6th Armoured Infantry. His group were to be replacements
forthe exhausted North Africa troops. They were sent to Casablanca,
North Africa immediately, and placed on a train to Oran, in Algeria.

Marie Elaine Yerington, 39, of 504 Linn St., died Wednesday, december 24, 1997, in a motor vehicle accident near Perry, Mo.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, at the St. Mathias Catholic Church, with the Rev. George Hoenig officiating. Pallbearers will be Nick Gow, Jim Brockrt, Donald
(Chip) Clark III, Shelly Van De Maat, Brent Van De Maat, and Randy Welsch. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. led by teh Catholic Daughters
of the Americas. Memorials may be made to the Marie E. Yerington Memorial Fund.
Mrs. Yerington was born on Jan. 9, 1958, in Davenport, the daughter of Benny and Addie Mentink Symmonds. She moved from Davenport to Muscatine in 1978.
She married John Yerington on Aug. 8, 1980 at the St. Mathias Catholic Church in Muscatine.
She was a graduate of Davenport West High School in Davenport, an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the St. Mathias Catholic Church
and its Sweing Circle, and the Women of the Moose.
She served as a volunteer at the Lutheran Homes, and was a loving mother , and caretaker of all.
Survivors include her mother, Addie Symmonds; her sons, Jeremy Yerington and his special friend, Jessica Rife, and Adam and Mark, all of Muscatine; her
mother-in-law, Leo Yerington and Jim Yerington; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Brockert, and Gertrude P. Yerington, all of Muscatine; three brothers, Edward
Symmonds of Davenport, Danny Symmonds of Tipton, and Benny Symmonds Jr. of Davenport; and one sister, Mrs. Steven (Melody) Kazenske of Le Claire.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1993, and her husband John, on July 20, 1996.
