DEATH: LAURIE W. THORNTON

Laurie Johanna Wilson Thornton, 42, died June 8, 1995, due to cardiac arrest
while swimming.

Born July 16, 1952 in Glendale, California to William R. andLaPriel Goodwin Wilson. She was valedictorian at Glendale High School and graduated summa cum laude from BYU in humanities. Laurie worked as a writer and editor for The Ensign and The Friend magazines and later was a freelance writer. She married Scott Charles Thornton on October 19, 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Laurie was a caring, listening wife and mother. Laurie lost her sight in 1982 due to complications of diabetes. She lifted and inspired countless peopleas she shared her courage and faith in dealing with her disability. She lovedthe scriptures and was a masterful teacher of the gospel, using her incredible
memory. Her abilities were tapped at BYU Education Week and in various general church committees. She was a favorite storyteller and music leader at local schools. She was fun-loving and had a dramatic flair, acting in many plays at school and community theaters. She loved music, especially singing in smallgroups and choirs, and to her children. Laurie was a diligent exerciser, swimming one mile every weekday morning. She used a talking computer (which she named Gandalf) to
write and to organize her home and life.

24 She is survived by her husband and her children, Matthew, Chailyn, and Benjamin. Her son, Nathan, preceded her in death. She is also survived by her parents; a sister, Sandy Wilson; and numerous aunts and cousins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 13, 1995, 12 Noon, at the West Bountiful Stake Center, 1930 North 600West in West Bountiful. Friends may call Monday
from 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Tuesday at the Stake Center from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Estates Cemetery in
Bountiful. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the American DiabetesAssociation.

Naomi Wilson Herrington was a resident of Chagrin Falls all of her life. She sold copper for the Copper Craft Guild from 1943 to 1969. In the mid-1980s, she served as a home health care aide at Hamlet Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Herrington, 69, suffered a fatal heart attack Tuesday at Meridia Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights.
She graduated from Chagrin Falls High School. She married Walter J. Herrington in 1946. He is deceased.
Mrs. Herrington worked in the Speice Drug Store from 1957 to 1969. She later worked for the Millbar Co. for eight years until 1982. She enjoyed playing bridge.
Mrs. Herrington is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen Rozhon of Chagrin Falls; a son, Richard Allen Chilson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; a sister; and a brother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Reed-Nichols Funeral Home, 87 E. Washington St., Chagrin Falls.

BIOGRAPHY: On the night he was killed (instantly) he came home and knocked on the backdoor, calling out to his wife, waking Kathryn up. No doubt confused as to whathad just happened... not knowing he had passed, or maybe just coming to say "good-bye". When Kathryn got up and opened the door, he wasn't there. About an hour later Kathryn was again awakened; a gentleman knocked on the door to tell Kathryn that Roy had been killed an hour ago in Marion, Ohio.

29289 Jasper Winans, farmer of P.O. Koonsville, was born in Union Township July 15, 1843, and is the son of Benjamin and Susan (Dodson) Winans, the former of whom was born near Baltimore, MD; and the latter in Huntington Township, where he wasmarried. Benjamin was a man much respected for his worth. In religious faithhe was a member of the P.M. Chruch and politically was a stanch Republican. Hewas born January 1801 and died in April 1880. His family consised of 8 childern all byt his wife Susan. After the death of Susan, he moved to Union Townshipwhere he resided the remainder of his life.
Jasper was reared and educated inRoss township, moved to Union Township when 18 yoa, where he remained. He engaged in agricultural pursuite. On August 22, 1862, he mustered into the U. S. service for the term of 3 years, and participated in the following battles: Chancellorsville, Keppy's Ford, Thoroughfare Gap, Wilderness, Laurel Hill, Spottsylvanis, Petersburg and Weldon Railroad. At the latter place, he was sunstruck which ended his real active service; he was honorably discharged at the closeofthe war. In Jaunary 1868, Mr. Winans marrieded Miss Susan Scott, daughter of Garret and Sarah Scott, to which union have been born 5 children, four of who survived. Mr. Winans owned 62 acresof valuable land, whech he handled with the skillpossessed only by an expert farmer. He was much respeted in his locality and had been honored with several township offices. He and his wife were memersof the M.E. Church, and he was a member of G.A.R. and a Republican.

the northeast part of the town to live with hisson Luke.
In the history of Granville, MA, it is written that the
Winchellsare one of the oldest families of the town, being
people of prominence in thisvicinity for many generations.
Winchell mountain carries the name of this family.
"Eli Winchell, a native of Granby and followed farming in that
vicinityfor some years, but removed to Hampden County at an
early day, buying a farm in East Granville; in connection with
tilling the soil he kept a public house for several years.".
