 Stephen was a signer of the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE. He was a Governor of his state for 9 years then 21 years a Chancellor of Rhode Island College.Stephen, served on the Committee of the Saftey and as a delegate to the First Continental Congress, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  He was active and unwearied in his exertions for the public good throughout his life.  He was born in Scituate; died in Providence, R.I.  He was also the Governor of his state for 9 yrs, and the Chancellor of Rhode Island College for 21 yrs. |  |  |
