DEBORAH HALEY," etc. Mrs. Henry Stanton, Stonington, Conn., says: "I know from old people that Elihu Hancox' wife was John Haley's daughter and that they lived near the Road Church District.... Elihu Hancox (sometimes called Elisha) was a son of Edward and Lucy (Chesebrough) Hancox, m. 1741. The name of Elihu or Elisha gives him away as to his mother's parentage. My mother often said this old ditty: "Joseph Cutler lives at the Mill Elisha Haley lives on the Hill, Blind Dewey lives at the Rocks, Wheedle-te-cut, old Johny Hancocks!"
