Jennings Rd. - Commercial Block Jennings Rd. - Tenement House
The large, multi-family tenement was accessed by an
extremely steep, long set of stairs that went from
the top of Denison Hill (at W.13th) down to Jennings Rd.
The stairs were staggered so that after every 10 or
so steps, there was a horizontal landing of about 10-12
feet. It was interesting to traverse when snowy or icy. 1320 Denison Ave. - The Merryman's Club
1910 - Masek, Charles (Ran a glue factory on this property.
There were many stables on this site.)
1943 - Ozuch, John and Catherine

There was a tall crabapple tree out front. The
apples were delicious, eaten with a bit of salt.
Something for us kids to look forward to each fall.
---------------------------------------------------
Across the street to the south (not shown on this map)
was Slaby's Shoe Store. They sold things like shoes,
socks, shoelaces, and sewing thread 1400-1404 Denison Ave. - Gasior's Bar / Party Hall
The Gasior's had a huge Great Dane that patroled their
backyard. Pretty intimidating for us little kids walking
to school. Only a chain link fence separated us from
that dog. 1406 Denison Ave. 1408 Denison Ave. 1414-1418 Denison Ave. - Bakery
By the 1950's, the baker hardly ever used the storefront
to display his wares anymore. There was a long driveway
alongside the building, where a side entrance led directly
into the bakery. There was nothing like walking into that
place and seeing the tables lined with doughnuts, or the
brick ovens in the wall that required long paddles to
retrieve the freshly baked breads, etc. All bread came
with a piece of white paper glued to the heel proclaiming
the baker's union he belonged to. 1424 Denison Ave. - Kilroy's
1900 - Stadler, August (Old address = 298)
1910 - Stadler, August (Owner) - Soapmaker
1936 - Kilroy, John H. (Owner)
This large corner property had, at one time, been
a Funeral Home. The brick home's distinctive features
were it's large stone steps, big porch and wooded lot.
A wrought iron fence surrounded the property. Outside
the fence was a stepping stone that had at one time
been used to exit horse-drawn wagons. By the early 50's,
the phrase 'Kilroy was here', and accompanying cartoon
of the upper part of a bald man's head and fingers,
was popular and frequently found drawn on the sidewalk. 3684 W.15th St.
