Married to Mary Ann Nead. Son of Adam W. Poe and Elizabeth Matthews.
His known occupations were as a tanner, as a flour mill operator, and as a tavern owner
The fate of David W. Poe is one of the tragic stories about a Brooklyn Centre resident.
In 1856, he and his son Jackson, age 16, set off for Nebraska City, Nebraska where another of his son's lived. Unfortunately for the pair, they encountered a severe snow storm accompanied by high winds and got lost. Both suffered extensive frostbite on all their limbs from which they could not recover. His son, Adam W. Poe wrote to A.A. Betts, of Brooklyn Centre, with the details of what his father and brother suffered.[1]
