The Cleveland Second Park Board purchased 89 acres of land in 1894 from Jacob B. Perkins, Cleveland industrialist. The land consisted of 2 parcels. The larger section was to become Edgewater Park and the smaller parcel to the west became Perkins Beach.

A large bath house at Edgewater Park was built in 1911. Postcards showing the bath house clearly show that water levels on Lake Erie were much higher in that era. By the 1930's, the bath house had fallen into disrepair. It was finally razed in the 1950's. This writer remembers entering the bath house as a child and seeing a considerable number of sinks around the outside wall and toilet stalls in the midsection.

Also available were a large park pavillion and play ground on the upper level of the park.
