NOTES: According to Charles N Sinnett's book, "Ancestor Samuel Hinckley
and Descendants," (his sources being the "History of Barnstable, Mass," as
well as from Hinckley descedants) on p. 21 he states: In the records of
several Maine towns where he lived he is mentioned as Deacon Samuel
Hinckley. In April 1719, Samuel Hinckley and wife Mary were dismissed
from the Harwich Massachusetts Church, to unite with the Truro
Massachusetts Congregational Church. He removed to Biddeford Maine in
1729-30, and remained there for a few years. York County Maine Records
state that he bought at Biddeford Maine, 29 Aug 1735, 33 acres of land of
James Kent for 115 pounds. He was one of the several persons associated
together for forming the First Congregational Chunch at Biddeford Maine of
which Church he was chosen Deacon. He signed the Covenant of the First
Church of Biddeford Maine, 4 Aug 1730. In 1739, he was located at New
Meadows, Brunswick, Maine. He was Selectman of Brunswick Maine,
1739-1743. Representative to the General Court of Massachusetts, 1747.
The History of Barnstable Massachusetts gives the names of only his first
seven children. The other children are given in Dr. Wheeler's History of
Brunswick, Topsham, and Harpswell, Maine. A list of the Hinckley's who
were at New Meadows, Brunswick, Maine in 1739: Deacon Samuel, Seth,
Shubael, Edmund, Aaron, Gideon, and Edward. The son, Isaac, is not givenin
this list, as he was killed at New Meadows, Brunswick, Maine, by theIndians;
his brothers, Edmund and Gideon, were with him at that time.

Dr. Wheeler says, 'When he was 75years old he removed to the easter part of Maine, where, at MachiasMaine, he married his fifth wife, by whom he had four children [sons],whose descendants are in eastern Maine. well as from Hinckley descedants) on p. 25-6 he states: Dr Wheeler in his
History of Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell, Maine, 'Judge Aaron Hinckley
was one of the most noted men of Brunswick Maine, in his day. Of his
personal appearance and manner nothing is known. But he is said to have
had but one eye. The tradition which accounts for the loss of his othereye
is, "A tame Indian in the employ of his father was one day holding him inhis
lap, and accidentally dropped a live coal from his pipe into the boy'seye,
totally destroying the sight of it." He was a man of good judgement, and
was often engaged in the service of the town, either on committees or as a
Selectman, in which capacity he served in the years: 1745, 1750, 1755,
1759, and 1760. In 1775, he was one of the Judges of the Court of
Sessions for Lincoln County Maine. In 1764, when Topsham Maine was
incorporated, as a town, Judge Aaron Hinckley was directed to issue the
warrant for the first town meeting. In his religious views he was a
Congregationalist. He was very severe in his opposition to the
Presbyterians. He lived where Benjamin Larrabee was living in 1854.'

NOTES: According to Charles N Sinnett's book, "Ancestor Samuel Hinckley
and Descendants," (his sources being the "History of Barnstable, Mass," as
well as from Hinckley descedants) on p. 27 he states: 'In July 1751, the
Indians came upon a party of seven settlers, who were making their hay at
New Meadows, near Brunswick Maine. Discovering that these men were
quite a distance from their guns, the savages ran and cut off theirretreat.
These men were Edmond Hinckley, with his brothers, Isaac and Gideon;
Deacon Samuel Whitney and his son, Samuel; Hezekiah Purington; and
Samuel Lumbers (Lombard). Isaac Hinckley was killed and the rest of the
men were taken prisoners, and carried to Canada, where they suffered
many hardships, but were finally exchanged.'

'Samuel Hinckley of Brunswick, Maine, in the County of Cumberland, and the
Province of Massachusetts Bay, in New England, yeoman, for 20 shillings
paid by Agnes Hinckley, widow of my beloved son, Isaac Hinckley, deceased;
in behalf of Mehitable Hinckley, only daughter of said Isaac Hinckley andwife
Agnes, land bounded southwest by Aaron Hinckley; northeast by James
Thompson; southeast by the New Meadows Riber, containing 100 acres.
