    Marriages of Scioto Co., OH gives marriage to Sophia, "He is 43, born in Beaver Co., PA, resident of Madison Twp., son
    of David Shanor, second marriage." This must be the brother-in-law of Mary Hanes Shanor. A marriage given for James Shanor in 1859 may be his (Piersol's) son (by his first marriage, it is!). See Mary Hanes' notes.

    In Early Scioto Co. Court Records is a death for Sarah Shaner, d. 5 Apr 1857 in Madison Twp., heart, age 41 1/2, married, farmer's wife, born PA, parents J & S Boren. This was Piersol's first wife. Maiden name of Boren indicates she came from the same part of Beaver Co., PA that he did.

    1860 Census lists Piersol in Madison Twp., Harrisonville with Sophia and a very large family. Listed next to him is Thomas Bennett. Piersol has $4000 in real property (huge sum for those days), $800 personal property. Children: Susan, Hiram, Mary, John, Sarah, Joseph, Jacob, and Nancy (ages 27-6), probably from his first marriage, and Piersol, age 2, likely with Sophia.
