Death: from PIONEER WOMEN OF THE WESTERN RESERVE; reports Samuel drowned on a trip back to Mass. while fording Buffalo Creek. There is a BuffaloCreek in western PA about 20 miles NW of Pittsburgh. This creek flows into the Allegheny River and is probably the area of Samuel's death.

Ref. Shays' Rebellion: Possible reason to move to Ohio Terr.- Rebellion was centered in Hampshire Co, MA 1787-88. Shays was fr Pelham, MA & was probably known by the Hamiltons. Mass. was an uncomfortable area for yomen farmers in 1780s after the Rev. War. To seek relief, many emigrated to Ohio.
