HONORED
Grange Grand Master Lesley Laputz pins a corsage on Stella HoldridgeMarquardt, the only surviving charter member of the 69-yeear-old LedyardGrange during anniversary ceremonies Friday night. Mrs. Marquardt, 89,was on of 24 members who founded the local Grange on April 19, 1907. Mrs.Marquardt, who now resides in Groton, was born and brought up in Ledyard.Her home was the old Lamb farmhouse on Rt. 117, recently destroyed byfire.

GROTON-=Stella I. Holdridge Marquardt, 91, of Marquardt Lane died at7:22 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Memboria Hospital where she was admittedSunday.
Her husband Christian G. Marquardt, died Oct. 28, 1937.
Mrs. Marquardt was a charter member of the Ledyard Grange.
Born in Ledyard, Jan. 23, 1887, she was the daughter of Joseph andMelissa Main Holdridge.
Survivors include a step-son, Arthur Marquardt of Groton, adaughter, Rena Carpenter of Flora, Ill.; 16 grandchildren, manygreat-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Byles GrotonMemorial Home. Interment will be in Starr Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

Hereis where he built their home and had to walk miles to acheive his goal.Mary Etta was a school teacher, a member of the Old Mystic Baptist Churchand belonged to the Ladies Aid Society.
William and Mary were understanding, warm and loving. They were married41 years.

LEDYARD - Earl Tyler Lamb, 78, of Lambtown Road, Ledyard, died earlyyesterday morning at his home after a lenghy illness.
He was born Jan. 27, 1909 in Ledyard, son of the late Austin S.Marion (Holdridge) Lamb. He was a lifelong resident of Ledyard.
Mr. Lamb was the husband of Doris E. (Perkins) Lamb. They weremarried in Preston on Oct. 12, 1935. She survives him.
Mrs. Lamb was educated in the Ledyard school system.
Before his retirement in 1971, he operated the family farm inLedyard. It is now known as Rocky Hill Farm and continues under theoperation of the Lamb family.
He was an honorary member of the Ledyard Fire Company.
He attended the Ledyard Congregational Church.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Earl T. Lamb, Jr. andRobert A. Lamb, both of Ledyard; three daughters, Marion L. Singer ofGroton, Amy L. Singer of Stonington, and Helen L. Bliven of Mystic; 13grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces andnephews.

Mrs. Bennett was born on May 13, 1916, in Ledyard, the daughter ofWilliam Leeds and Mary Etta Gray Holdridge.
She attended the local schools in Stonington and graduated fromStonington High School in 1932.
She was married to George Willington Hunt, who died in 1979. Shemarried Ellsworth Bennett on Dec. 2, 1982, in Old Mystic.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Bennett is survived by three sons, GeorgeWilliam Hunt of Atlanta, Ga., Ronald Albert Hunt of Aiken, S.C. and GaryWynfield Hunt of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters Melissa T. Hildebrand of OldMystic and Lois St. Piere of Plainfield; six grnadchildren and threegreat-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Phronsie Wheeler, and fourbrotheres, Joseph, William, Francis "Sam" and Henry Holdridge.

STONINGTON - F. A. "Sam" Holdridge, 65, of Wheeler Road waspronounced dead on arrival at the Pequot Treatment Center in Groton afterbeing stricken in Mystic.
He had resided in Old Mystic most of his life. He was born in OldMystic Jun 30, 1923, the son of William L. and Mary E. Gray Holdridge.
He was married to the former Caroline E. Shafer in Groton on Nov. 3,1945.
She survives her husband.
Mr. Holdridge was a farmer most of his life. He had worked atWychwood Farms in North Stonington for over 25 years. He had a lifelonginterest in agriculture.
In 1985, he retired from the maintenance department of the formerMystic Oral School.
Mr. Holdridge was a member of the Old Mystic Baptist Church andserved on the church's building committee. He was active for many yearswith the 4-H Club of North Stonington and served as vice president of theLambtown Cemetery Association in Ledyard.
Besides his wife he is survived by four sons: Samuel L. of OldMystic, James F. of North Stonington, Carl N. of Stonington and David G.Holdridge of Groton; one daughter, Mary E. Sepowitz of Old Mystic; twobrothers, william L. of Sterling, Mass., and Henry W. Holdridge of MoranoValley, Calif.; four sisters, Phronsie H. Wheeler of Mystic, Etta O.Bennett of Stonington, Melissa Hildebrand of Old Mystic and Lois St.Pierre of Jewett City, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the OldMystic Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lambtown Cemetery, Ledyard.There are no visiting hours.

Mr. Holdridge was a heavy equipment operator for the Department ofPublic Works in Sterling for 13 years prior to his retirement.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the First Church of Sterling, Post #189 AmericanLegion and AARP.
