  1. Ruth SUTPHEN

    Notes:
Although I have Ruth Sutphen as a wife of Dr. George B. Farnsworth, the obituary seems to indicate that she was, in fact, married to a DIFFERENT George Farnsworth who died around 1946-47.

    OBIT: Name: Farnsworth, Ruth Sutphen
    Date: Oct 13 1948
Source: Plain Dealer; Cleveland Necrology File, Reel #024.
Notes: Farnsworth, Ruth Sutphen. Mrs. Ruth Sutphen Farnsworth, formerly of Cleveland, will be buried in the family plot in South Bristol, Me., following services at 2:30 p. m. tomorrow in the South Bristol Church. Mrs. Farnsworth died Monday in her summer home at Damariscotta, Me. She was the widow of Dr. George Bourne Farnsworth, who until 1930 was associated with Maternity Hospital and Western Reserve Medical School. He died 18 months ago. Mrs. Farnsworth was born 69 years ago in Valatia, N. Y. She was the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Paul Frederick Sutphen. She came to Cleveland with her parents in 1886, when her father began his many years of services here, including his pastorate at Church of the Covenant. After attending Miss Mittleberger's School here and Miss Dana's School in Morristown, N. J., she returned to Cleveland and in 1904 was married to Dudley Baldwin Wick, who died a year later. She married Dr. Farnsworth several years later. Mrs. Farnsworth was one of the founders and first president of the former Amateur Musical Club. Dr. and Mrs. Farnsworth moved from Cleveland in 1930, spending their winters in Florida and summers at Christmas Cove and Damariscotta, Me. She was active in garden clubs, both in Florida and in Maine, and won many ribbons for her displays. Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Vollmer W. Fries of Cleveland and Mrs. Neal W. Dale of Scarsdale, N. Y.; three grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph G. Wild of Cleveland and Mrs. Rockwood Bullard of St. Clair. Mich.
