    Notes:
    Othniel enlisted in 1777 in Chatham where he then lived, in Capt.David Dorrance's company, Connecticut Line (from D.A.R. linage book,pages 172 and 173.
    According to information in the DAR records, "Othniel Brainerd(1728-1815) enlisted, 1777, from Chatham, where he then lived, inCapt. David Dorrance's company, Connecticut Line. He was born inHaddam Neck, Conn.; died in Middletown."es, "Othniel Brainerdand Mrs. Jerusha Shaler Kilborn (1729-1867), his wife, m. 1764."(However, the 1867 date must be a misprint, as she reportedly diedaround 1807, not 1867 which would have made her almost 150 years old).

    BIOGRAPHY: Sergt. Othniel and Seba BRAINERD were sons of Othniel and Lucy (SWADDLE) BRAINERD, of Middle Haddam. The former was born September 19th 1755, and served seven years in the war, and died May 27th 1832. Seba was born April 14th 1763, and served some time during the latter part of the war, and became a colonel of militia, and died about 1845, aged 82.
