THE REV. REMBERT D. BADARZYNSKI, CHAPLAIN
Dateline: PITTSBURGH
The Rev. Rembert Daniel Badarzynski, a Cleveland native and a Franciscan priest for nearly 50 years, died Friday at St. Anthony Friary here after suffering a stroke. He was 78.
During the early 1970s, Father Badarzynski had served as chaplain to the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis at their provincial headquarters in Garfield Heights. In 1993, he briefly returned to the Cleveland area to serve as chaplain at Mount Alverna Nursing Home in Parma.
He was the son of John and Wanda (Krajewski) Badarzynski. He received his elementary education at Sacred Heart Catholic School and St. Francis Catholic School. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland in 1936.
He chose a religious life in high school. He took the religious name Rembert on Sept. 14, 1941, when he was admitted to the novitiate in Pulaski, Wis. He completed his philosophical studies in 1942 at St. Francis College in Burlington, Wis.
He attended Lourdes Seminary at Cedar Lake, Ind., from 1946 to 1948 and completed his theological studies at St. Mary of the Angels Seminary in Green Bay. He was ordained June 11, 1949.
In addition to his Ohio assignments, Father Badarzynski held posts in Indiana, Illinois, Mississippi, North Dakota, Wisconsin and in the Philippines.
He was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was a Third Degree member since 1958 and a Fourth Degree member since 1973.
He is survived by a sister, Sister Michaeline Badarzynski of Garfield Heights; and two brothers, Norbert, of Flint, Mich., and Ray, of Independence.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 3649 E. 65th St., Cleveland. Burial will be at the Provincial Cemetery in Pulaski, Wis., in the spring.
