Notes:
I was born in Cleveland, my family moved to Akron where my father was a credit manager for Firestone Steel Products. Before the end of the war he accepted a position with Timmerman Products (the famous "Speed Nut" company) and we lived in Lakewood and Rocky River, Ohio. I attended Hiram College, in Hiram, Ohio one year and transferred to University of Cincinnati.
" . . . and what did you do in the "Police Action", daddy"?
I felt a keen need to serve in the Korean war and first applied for Flight Observer training and was tested in Chicago, Illinois. I failed the eye examination, so I enlisted in the United States Air Force from Cleveland, Ohio on November 12, 1952 and entered basic training at Sampson, AFB in Geneva, New York and was assigned to Squadron 3655, Flight 2138. I was permitted to apply for OCS and successfully passed the examination, but due to the shortage of billets, he was not enrolled. I then applied for and successfully passed the "by-pass examination" as a photographer being awarded a 23230 AFSC. Upon his completion of basic training, I was assigned as a member of the permanent party at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois assigned as a photo technician, Base Photo Lab.
On January 3, 1953, I was published on Special Orders to leave Chanute Field for assignment with the 12 Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron of the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing at Kimpo AFB, Korea. During this assignment, he received a promotion to Airman 2nd Class. The 12th Tactical Recon Squadron (Black Birds) was one of two night photo organizations in the USAF using a recon version of the WWII, B-26 as the platform. Serving night duty, time was left for extensive travel and photographing of the peninsula. One such adventure involved extensive photographing of the recently completed Bando Hotel in downtown Seoul. Photographs were later presented personally to the Korean Ambassador in Washington, DC and was followed by a letter from Sygmond Rhee, PhD, the president of South Korea. He served there until December 9, 1954 when he received Special Orders assigning him to the Base Photo Lab of the 54th Fighter Group (ADC), Greater Pittsburgh Airport in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. I was promoted to Airman 1st Class with a 23250 AFSC and was assigned, by the Squadron Commander, Major Julian Becker to be his NCOIC, Ground training and Information. I successful completed an OJT Training program at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi in September of 1955. I received several letters of accommodation from Wing and Squadron inspections. I applied for any early discharge on September 8, 1956 to reenter the University of Cincinnati to resume studies leading toward a degree in Business Administration.
On returning to the University of Cincinnati, I graduated in 1960 with a BBA degree in Marketing, During this time, I was inducted into Delta Sigma Epsilon (national business honorary), was a senior staff photographer on the university's yearbook (received a first place award for college yearbooks in the nation in 1959) and published a pictorial history "Cincinnati In Bronze" for the Cincinnati Public Schools.
Following graduation, he worked for Decision, Inc. a publisher of technical recruiting data, married Paulette Koller Johnen, widow of a close friend in Cincinnati who already had a son, Louis Eric. The small Randall family came to California in 1963 where he was elected a Vice President of the company with responsibility for for sales in the 11 western states.
In 1974, I followed his father's footsteps and started a technical recruiting firm in Pasadena, California until 1982. I accepted an appointment to the staff of International Prayer Assembly (IPA) in 1984 in Seoul, Korea as the Director of Development. On completion of the event, I fulfilled a life long desire and taught school as a full time substitute until 1999 when I again, retired.
Rick Johnen Randall graduated from U C Davis, is an high school agriculture teacher in the central valley, married to Catherine Sirolle and they have an adopted daughter, Hayley Elizabeth Randall. Robert Hale Randall is a graduate of CA State University at SLO, he is a registered structural engineer and and is engaged to be married next April. My wife is a credential teacher, and has been a nursery school teacher for 13 years in the community. We have continued to live a very quiet life with Polly continuing to teach and Dad, working, daily, on the Randall family genealogy. [William Roberts Randall, June, 2001]
