    Dorus Randall Dies

    Dr. Dorus Powers Randall, 90, professor emeritus of physics at Syracuse University, died Sunday at his home, Strathmore Drive
    A native of Covert, Michigan, he had lived in Syracuse more than 40 years. He received a bachelor's degree from Western Reserve University and did graduate work at the University of Chicago. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard, where he also taught.
    At Syracuse University he taught applied sciences and physics: He helped to establish a course in bio-
    physics at the Syracuse University School Medicine. During World War II he was called to Massachusetts Institute of Technology to teach courses in electronics. Following retirement, he taught a year at Harper College at the State University of New York at Binghamton. He then taught a special course for Tom Watson, Sr. of IBM at Cornell University in Ithaca.
    Following a semester at the Utica College branch of Syracuse University, he was called back for special government work at the Collendale area, Syracuse University.
    Randall was a member of Sigma Psi, Sigma Psi Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternities.
    Surviving are his wife, the former Arshalouis Azadian; a daughter, Mrs. Anne Carolyn Gustafson of Glastonbury, Connecticut; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenleaf Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Buffalo.
    Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at 503 W. Onondaga Street.
    Contributions may be made to the Physics Library at Syracuse University or to charity.

    Tribute Paid to Syracuse University's Randall

    A host of friends colleagues who had been associated with him during his life as professor of physics at Syracuse University went Wednesday to Greenleaf Funeral Home to pay their respects to Dr. Dorus Powers Randall, who died August 19.
    The Rev. Dr. Daniel Smith of Syracuse University's Religion Department conducted the service and gave the eulogy.
    Smith told of Randall's academic background and his enormous capacity for disciplined study.
    Smith said that during both Randall's college years and in his professional life, he was eagerly sought
    He closed the service with a reading of the 121st and 23rd psalms.
    During the quiet time before the service, the organist played many of "Randy's" favorite hymns, and after the benediction the Lord's prayer was sung in Armenian by Diran Ajemian, a deacon in St. John's Armenian Apostolic Church.
