    William Leeds Holdridge was born in Ledyard, Conn. He attended gradeschool in Ledyard. His occupations were farming and carpentry. He marriedMary Etta, daughter of Fairfield and Harriet Etta (Brown) Gray ofColchester, Conn. They started their married life and family in Ledyard.William purchased land in a quaint little town of Old Mystic, Conn. Hereis where he built their home and had to walk miles to acheive his goal.Mary Etta was a school teacher, a member of the Old Mystic Baptist Churchand belonged to the Ladies Aid Society.
    William and Mary were understanding, warm and loving. They were married41 years.

    Stonington--Phronsie H. Wheeler, 75, formerly of Wheeler Road, diedThursday at Mary Elizabeth Convalescent Center.
    She was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Ledyard, daughter of William and MaryEtta Holdridge.
    A lifelong residence of Stonington, she married Ray Park Wheeler onApril 24, 1938. He died in 1970.
    She was a member of Old Mystic Baptist Church.
    She is survived by two brothers, William L. Holdridge of Sterling,Mass., and Henry W. Holdridge of Moreno Valley, Calif.; three sisters E.Odella Bennett of Stonington, Melissa Hildebrand of Old Mystic and LoisSt. Pierre of Jewett City. Another brother, Francis Holdridge, died in1988.
    The serivce and burial will be at 2 pm Monday in Elm Grove Cemetery,Mystic. There are no calling hours.

    Stonington -- Etta Odella Holdridge Hunt Bennett, 80, of 23 GoldenSpur, Arlington Acres, died Tuesday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital whereshe was admitted on Monday.
    Mrs. Bennett was born on May 13, 1916, in Ledyard, the daughter ofWilliam Leeds and Mary Etta Gray Holdridge.
    She attended the local schools in Stonington and graduated fromStonington High School in 1932.
    She was married to George Willington Hunt, who died in 1979. Shemarried Ellsworth Bennett on Dec. 2, 1982, in Old Mystic.
    Besides her husband, Mrs. Bennett is survived by three sons, GeorgeWilliam Hunt of Atlanta, Ga., Ronald Albert Hunt of Aiken, S.C. and GaryWynfield Hunt of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters Melissa T. Hildebrand of OldMystic and Lois St. Piere of Plainfield; six grnadchildren and threegreat-grandchildren.
    She was predeceased by a sister, Phronsie Wheeler, and fourbrotheres, Joseph, William, Francis "Sam" and Henry Holdridge.
    A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Friday in LambtownCemetery, Ledyard. There are no calling hours. Dinoto Funeral Home, 17Pearl St., Mystic, is in charge of arrangements.

After the war he came home where he married CarolineElizabeth, daughter of Carl Lewis and Christine Elizabeth (Williams)Shafer of Gales Ferry, Conn. He did various jobs: farming, carpentry andworked for the Mystic Oral School until he retired. He and his wife areactive members at the Old Mystic Baptist Church. We look up to thesefolds with a lot of love.

    STONINGTON - F. A. "Sam" Holdridge, 65, of Wheeler Road waspronounced dead on arrival at the Pequot Treatment Center in Groton afterbeing stricken in Mystic.
    He had resided in Old Mystic most of his life. He was born in OldMystic Jun 30, 1923, the son of William L. and Mary E. Gray Holdridge.
    He was married to the former Caroline E. Shafer in Groton on Nov. 3,1945.
    She survives her husband.
    Mr. Holdridge was a farmer most of his life. He had worked atWychwood Farms in North Stonington for over 25 years. He had a lifelonginterest in agriculture.
    In 1985, he retired from the maintenance department of the formerMystic Oral School.
    Mr. Holdridge was a member of the Old Mystic Baptist Church andserved on the church's building committee. He was active for many yearswith the 4-H Club of North Stonington and served as vice president of theLambtown Cemetery Association in Ledyard.
    Besides his wife he is survived by four sons: Samuel L. of OldMystic, James F. of North Stonington, Carl N. of Stonington and David G.Holdridge of Groton; one daughter, Mary E. Sepowitz of Old Mystic; twobrothers, william L. of Sterling, Mass., and Henry W. Holdridge of MoranoValley, Calif.; four sisters, Phronsie H. Wheeler of Mystic, Etta O.Bennett of Stonington, Melissa Hildebrand of Old Mystic and Lois St.Pierre of Jewett City, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the OldMystic Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lambtown Cemetery, Ledyard.There are no visiting hours.
    Gifts in Mr. Holdridge's memory may be made to the Old MysticBaptist Church building fund.

    THE WHITE ROSE on the pulpit Sunday honored the memory of HenryHoldridge, Sr., who died suddenly at his son's home in Arizona on May19th. A graveside service was held in Arizona on Monday, May 23rd. Thefamily has requested that gifts in his memory be given to this church.Mr. Holdridge worked here many years with brother, Sam, when the OfficeWing was being built, and was a good friend to all of us in the church.He had planned to be here in June, and we will miss him very much. Ourprayers and deepest sympathies are with all of the family during thistime of sorrow. May all God's peace and comfort be theirs.

    Mystic -- Henry Holdridge, Sr., 68, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of OldMystic, died Thrusday at Valley Lutheran Hospital, Mesa.
    He was born Sept. 18, 1925 in Old Mystic, son of William Leeds andMary Holdridge.
    He was a retired mechanic.
    He is survived by his previous wife, Dorothy Holdridge ofStonington; one daughter Deborah Henning of Hampton, Va.; one son HenryW. Holdridge of Mesa; one brother, William W. Holdridge of Sterling,Mass.; and three sisters, Delia Bennett of Stonington, MellissaHildebrand of Old Mystic and Lois St. Pierre of Plainfield.
    He is predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Francis "Sam"Holdridge, and a sister, Phronsie Wheeler.
    The funeral was held Monday in Phoenix, Arx. Burial was in theVeterans Cemetery, Phoenix, Melcher Mortuary, Mesa, was in charge ofarrangements.

    He leaves his wife of 52 years, Lorraine (Mathieu) Holdridge; adaughter, Wendy L. Sherman of Sterling; three sisters, Odella Bennett ofStonington, Conn., Melissa Hildebrand of Mystic, Conn., and Lois St.Pierre of Plainfield, Conn.; five grand-children; nephews and nieces. Adaughter Audrey H. Moir, formerly of Fitchburg, died this year.
    He was born in Old Mystic, Conn, son of William L. and Marrietta(Gray) Holdridge, Sr., and has lived in Sterling for the past 38 years.
    Mr. Holdridge was a heavy equipment operator for the Department ofPublic Works in Sterling for 13 years prior to his retirement.
    He was an Army veteran of World War II.
    He was a member of the First Church of Sterling, Post #189 AmericanLegion and AARP.
    Furneral services will be held Thursday at 10 am in the First Churchof Sterling, 6 Meeting House Hill Road, Sterling. Burial will be inHillside Cemetery, Sterling. Calling hours at the James E. Watson FuneralHome, 149 Water St., Clinton, will be 7 to 9 pm tomorrow.

    Fitchburg -- Audrey H. (Holdridge) Moir, 50, of 29 Mallard Drive, anemergency room nurse at Clinton Hospital, died Sunday in New EntglandDeaconness Hospital, Boston.
    She leaves a son, Dwight H. Moir of Butt, Mont., a daughter,Kimberly H. Burns of Worchester, her parents William L., Jr. and LorraineA. (Mathieu) Holdridge, a sister, Wendy L. Sherman of Sterling; fourgrandchildren. She was born in Westerly, RI, and was graduate of St.Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and wasemployed for several years in the Clinton Hospital emergency room.
    She was a member of the First Church of Sterling and its Three PointGroup. She belonged to the Garden Club and taught CPR to the townambulance staff.
    A memorial service will be 2 pm Thursday in First Church, 6Meetinghouse Hill Road, Sterling. Burial will be private. There are nocalling hours. In leu of flowers memorial contributions may be made tothe American Diabetes Association, 40 Speen St., PO Box 1221, Farmingham,01701. Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., Worchester, is directingarrangements.

    Wedding vows were exchanged recently in Danielson between Pattie AnnDucat and Carl Edwin Noren. The bride is the daughter of Mr. Leroy Ducatof Cady Street, Danielson and the late Mrs. Anita Ducat. Parents of thegroom are Mrs. and Mrs. Edwin St. Pierre, Jr. of David Road, Plainfield.
    The couple were married at the home of the brides parents followedby a folk mass in St. James Church. Rev. Emile Dusseault officiated.
    The bride chose a gown of white silk organza fashioned with a QueenAnne neckline and long sheer sleeves. The bodice enhanced with Veniselace daisies and the full skirt, encircled with a deep ruffle, flowedinto a chapel length train. For her headpiece she wore a Camelot cap fromwhich fell a multi-tier veil of illusion edged in Venise lace.
    Maid of honor was Cecile Ducat of Danielson. The bridesmaids wereDonna Ducat and Jeanne Augar, also both of Danielson.
    Best Man was Michael Fortin of Plainfield with guests ushered byBruce Bouley of Plainfield and Wayne Ducat of Danielson.
    Following a reception in the church hall, the couple left on awedding trip to Washington, DC. They will reside in Pomfree Center.
    The bride a 1973 graduate of Killingly High School, attendedQuinebaug Valley Community College. She is a press operator at DeltaRubber Co. in Danielson.
    Mr. Noren graduated in 1973 from Plainfield High School in 1974 fromThames Valley State Techinical College. He is a senior draftsman of theDelta Rubber Co.

    PLAINFIELD MAN HIT BY CAR, DIES
    A Plainfield man was killed Thursday evening when he apparently raninto the path of a car on Pomfret Street.
    Carl Noren, 42, of 78 Canterbury Road, was pronounced dead onarrival at Day Kimball Hospital a short time after the 6:30 accident.
    Putnam police, who released few details of the accident, said thecar was driven by Richard Coderre, 55, of Munyan Road, Putnam. He washeaded west on Pomfret Street (Route 44).
    The accident happened a short distance east of the hospital, nearthe bottom of the section of road commonly known as "Hospital Hill."
    Police said they have closed their investigation and no charges willbe lodged against the driver.

    CARL E. NOREN, JR., 42, of Plainfield, died on June 19, 1997. Husband for19 years of Pattie (Ducat) Noren, father of Kenneth Noren and MatthewNoren, both of Plainfield, son of Lois (Holdridge) (Noren) St. Pierre andstepson of Edwin St. Pierre of Plainfield. He attended Waterford schoolsbefore his family moved to Plainfield. Mr. Noren graduated fromPlainfield High in 1973 and then studied mechanical drafting at ThamesValley State Technical College in Norwich. In 1974 he joined Delta Rubberas a tooling engineer, working there for 19 years. He enjoyed computers,was an avid golfer and often ran in road races. Mr. Noren was a member ofthe Pachaug Outdoor Club. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson.
