    In 1776, Stephen Pendleton was enrolled in the 3d Westerly Co.Militia, and on Dec 25 in that year he enlisted in Col. R. Elliott'sRegiment, raised for three years., as shown by the list of balancesreported due Oct. 1785. [Mss., RI Hist. Soc.] On June 11, 1778, he wasenlisted by the town of Westerly for nine months' service for the Stateof Rhode Island.
