He was a wagon-maker and lived in No. Brookfield. He was aRepublican from the organization of that party, and he and his wife weremembers of the Baptist Church. They lived all their life in the town ofBrookfield, except three years when he resided in Morrisville, NY. He wasaJustice of the Peace for years' was president of the Board of Educationof No. Brookfield Union School for three years or more; was apublic-spirited citizen and very successful in business. He retired frombusiness with what was then considered a competency.

He studied law; was Deputy Clerk of Madison Co., NY, 1866-1867; amerchant at NO. Brookfield, 1868-1886; was Postmaster, Justice of thePeace, and Supervisor of the town of Brookfield. Since 1886 he has beenin the insurance business, and has been secretary of the Hamilton MutualFire Insurance Company of Hamilton, NY, where he resides May 1905. He isa Republican, and he and his wife are members of the Baptist Church, ofwhich he is a deacon.
