Notes:
BIRTH:
Anthony's birth date was given as June 13, 1867 on his death certificate.
The date of 1860 was obtained from his naturalization record. This date fits with his immigration information too (as found on the ship manifest) which shows him as 32 years old in 1892.
The informant on the death certificate was Bertha Josefkowicz (his daughter).

CIACHERSKI, Anton age 68, b Poland Step-father-in-law
family: Jozeifkowicz (that's a guess), Walter & Bertha
address 4131 E 57th St.
Ship manifest lists Antoni (32) Czacherska travelling with Anna (36) and Bromiol (Bertha?) age 7. IF this is the same Anthony as our family's, it explains the link with Bertha, though doesn't really explain if she was real child of his or step-child. My family notes show that Bertha was raised by the Czacherski's.
Took care of the Wanicki children while Vincent was working. They didn't like him because he was frequently drunk. Their opinion of him was that he was a dirty, old man. He was a widower at this time.
Anthony was the Godfather of Isabel Wanicki (Pauline Cywinski was the Godmother. Pauline was Anthony's sister-in-law.).
OCCUPATION:
For at least a few years, he was caretaker at St. Mary's Cemetery on E.71st St. Unable to verify this. St. Mary's has no employment records.
DEATH:
Broncho-pneumonia. Informant was Bertha (Witwer) Josefkowicz of 4131 E.57th St. (his ward).
BURIAL:
Date of death is totally unknown but it would have to be after 1930 because he baby sat the Wanicki children and the mother died that year and it is only because of her death that Anthony's services would have been needed by Vincent. And, since he is in the 1930 census, his death would have to be after that year (he was 68 years old at the time).
[UPDATE -- his death certificate was found which shows that he died in 1939.]
I believe he is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, E. 71st St., Cleveland, OH.. I called the cemetery 12 March 2003 to inquire if he was in their records but was told that all records prior to 1935 were lost in a fire. In any case, early records (I was told) were very sketchy, anyway. (Note: Infants were recorded in an Interment Log but no index cards were made out for them. Not that that is pertinent to this individual. I just include that information for future researchers.) It would require an extensive search of the gravestones to find him and/or his wife.

IMMIGRATION:
The Ellis Island site has a listing for Antoni Czacherski of Berkowo arriving in NYC on May 11, 1907 aboard The Graf Waldersee out of Hamburg. He lists his destination as an Aunt Maria Skorlickaska(?) of 457 Henderson St., Jersey City, NJ. His age is listed as 18. I'm not sure if this is the same Anthony but since the family was from Borkowo, this may be him or possibly a relative. Also, the 1920 and 1930 Census lists him as having arrived in 1907 so it would appear that this could be the correct person at the Ellis Island site.

Notes:
Birth place -
Borkowo was located on the map as Borkowo Koscielne, near Sierpc.
Borkowo - Latitude: 52.8333, Longitude: 19.7167
Not far away to the southeast is a town called Dziembakowo which is probably where their surname was derived.

IMMIGRATION:
Arrived in U.S.A. 1903 (per 1910 Census).
CENSUS:
1910 Ohio Census (Ward 24, E.D. 362, sheet 5, 8205 Pulaski Avenue N.E.) lists Angelica as 31 years old, in her first marriage, with three children born to her and three children still living. She spoke Polish and had no occupation.
Aniela was good and kind, but also strict, but never mean. She was taller than her husband, who stood at 5'9". She was very good with her hands and created many things with her crocheting. When she died, her aunts came in and took away all the things she had made such as lace blouses, doilies, etc. They also took Tiffany lamps, which suggests that the lamps MIGHT have been from the Dziembak or Czacherski family. Since there weren't any Dziembak relatives in Cleveland, that only leaves the Czacherski's. The aunts in question, then would be the wives of her uncles, Anthony and Joseph.
DEATH:

IMMIGRATION:
A ship manifest for the Konigen Luise lists a Jan Dziembek arriving March 29, 1912 from the port of Bremen. The name is clearly Jan on the manifest but had been transcribed as "Ian" on the Ellis Island website. Jan arrived at the age of 22 and was married to Marianne. He was from Borkowo and headed for Jersey City, NJ. I'm not sure is this is our Jan Dziembak but he does come from the same town. Also, while researching arrivals for Czacherski, I noted that several listed Jersey City as a destination. This might be something worth following up on.

[*** NOTE *** -- If John was married, why would notification have been made to his sister and not his wife? One possibility is that she was still in Poland. Notes:
This family is included in the database because Anthony Czacherski lived with them in 1930 and was listed as a "step-father-in-law". At this time, I am unsure of how this relationship fits into the family but wanted to make note of the information in case it becomes important sometime in the future when other facts surface.
MARRIAGE:

There is also an application around this same time in history that makes me wonder if this woman could be Bertha's sister?

to Deborah Beigie-Murphy - I am your mother, Eleanor's, first cousin. Your grandfather, James, is an older brother of my father, Anthony. Your grandfather, Walter Jozefkowicz, spelled his name as Wladislaw, before coming to the U.S. His birthday was 8-11-1879. He married Bertha Witwer, dob 6-3-1882, on 1-18-1901, in St. Casimer's church in Cleveland, OH. They lived, briefly, in Muncie IN, when your grandfather was a little boy. Bertha's birth name was Bernice, but someone at immigration decided she should be Bertha and changed that record. She told me this when I was 10 years old, so I don't doubt it at all. Your grandfather's middle name was Maximillian, do you have that listed? Your Aunt Carol told me that when your cousin, Jimmy, was born. I would like to know what year your Grandmother, Stella was born - I know her birthday was 2-14, because I sent her birthday cards. (That is also your cousin Dawn's birthday. I'm hoping to hear from you).
Sincerely, Toni Lempner

Notes:
Foster child of Anthony Czacherski. Parents killed in a car accident. Lived with Piotrowski for awhile and also Vincent Wanicki, but Anthony Czacherski had no children so wanted him. Rumor has it that he was only wanted to be a workhand on the farm. Bruno was not yet living with them in 1930 as the census shows only Anthony and his wife. He is not shown in the 1930 census at the Wanicki household, either.
Searched 1930 census index for any Bronislaw or Bruno age about 11 with no success.
Possible parents:
KIEDA, PETRONELLA and GRODZIK, JULIAN 0103 0250 94
[UPDATE -- yes, the above couple are the right ones.]
ZAWADSKI, ROSE and GRODZIK, MICHAEL 0118 0240 19 00
[NOTE -- this is NOT Julius' brother. Michael's death certificate specifies different parents.]
Birth and death dates obtained from SSDI entry for Bruno Czacherski. This is probably my error as there was a Bruno Czacherski elsewhere in the family. Bruno Grozdik may not have changed his name.

Concord Township -
Services for Bruno T. Czacherski, a Picker X-Ray retiree who earned the Bronze Star medal for valor in World War II, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Ritondaro Funeral Home, 126 South St., Chardon.
Czacherski, 84, died Saturday at his home in Concord Township.
He served in the Army as a platoon sergeant with the 71st Infantry Regiment of the 44th Division. He participated in the Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe campaigns.
Czacherski didn't like talking about his wartime experiences and never told his family what he did to earn the Bronze Star.
The Cleveland native lived in Hambden Township before moving to Concord Township in 1949.
He retired in 1987 as an inspector for Picker X-Ray in Euclid, where he had worked for 22 years. He previously was employed as a tube-machine operator at Ohio Rubber Co. in Willoughby.
Czacherski belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7754 of Fairport Harbor, Disabled American Veterans Lake County Chapter 42 of Willoughby and the Polish National Alliance.
He and his wife, Katherine "Kay," would have celebrated their 52nd anniversary July 30.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons, Bruce of Brick, N.J., and Dennis of Parkman Township; daughters, Lorraine of Newhall, Calif., and Cheryl of Concord Township; two grandchildren; and a sister.
Donations may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Rd., Mentor 44060.

Notes:
CHRISTENING: At St. Casimer's Church on Sowinski Ave., with Anthony Czacherski, Aniela's uncle, as godfather, and a distant cousin of hers, Pauline Cywinski. as godmother. Cywinski was related through the Czacherski line.
MARRIAGE: Bill Dart was Isabel's boss at the Aluminum Casting Company. He promised her a church wedding but never followed through. Instead, they were married by a Justice of the Peace.
Some information that this compiler received came from Cecilia Brzoska in 1978. She went to school with Isabel. When I interviewed Cecilia, she was 75 years old and living at 3721 E. 71st St., Cleveland, Ohio. It was she who told me of the Czacherski and Cywinski family connections. She also told me that she thought Isabel had died of Leukemia but that part isn't true. She mentioned that Isabel passed out a lot. With Glomerulunephritis, Isabel was probably quite sick without realizing it.
Lived on Avery Road in Brecksville, Ohio.
DEATH: Chronic Glomerulonephritis. Untreated strep stayed in the body long enough where in certain individuals, attempts to eradicate the infection led to the production of "immune compleses" or large molecules that could "clog up" the glomeruli in the kidneys, hence the term "glomerulonephritis". Over a period of time the resultant scarring and inflammation would lead to kidney failure. Prompt treatment with antibiotics could have removed the infection.

(13.Aniela3, 3.Mary2, 1.(Male)1) b. 31 May 1920, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA; d. Sep 1920, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio.
Notes:
His mother died shortly after giving birth to him. He was given to be raised by a family friend but died shortly after. Not sure of burial site. Might be either Calvary or St. Mary's on E.71st St. If he had been buried under the name of his foster (or adoptive?) parents (see notes below about MICHALSKI), then he was buried at Heart of Mary cemetery which is probably an alternative name for St. Mary's.
Felix was only about 4 months old when he died.
No one in the family seems to know exactly which family took in Felix, however, a little research into death certificates turned up a Felix MICHALSKI baby. The death certificate lists his birthday as Jun 1, 1920 and his death as Nov 8, 1920. The certificate lists the parents as Stanislaw (Stanley) MICHALSKI and Stanislawa WALUSKA. Residence was 4112 E.56th St. The reasons I believe this is probably the right baby is that the date of birth is only one day off, the baby lived for just a few months, but most importantly of all, the residence is just a few houses away from Vincent and Aniela's home at 4127 E.56th St. Felix Michalski died of bronchio-pneumonia.
Thus far, I have been unable to find any further trace of Stanislaw and Stanislawa Michalski. There are a couple of Stanley's in the 1920 census, but neither one is living on E.56th. It's possible one of the couples lived elsewhere at the time of the census and moved to E.56th sometime between Felix's birth and his death, but that is still to be determined. One wonders if the couple had any other children, and if so, would any have been old enough to remember this child. Unfortunately, any of them would probably be deceased by now, themselves, and it is unlikely that the origins of this baby would have come down thru the family grapevine. The best way to resolve this would be to see if a birth record exists for the Michalski child. If not, then the scenario presented above is all the more likely.
Additional note:
I found a death certificate for Stella Michalski, nee Walerski, of 7304 Aetna Ave. Spouse: Stanley
Born: May 8, 1888
Died: March 3, 1933 of cervical cancer
Father: Jozef Walerski
Mother: Antonina Lucaszewski
The maiden name Waluska (or the American version Waluski) and Walerski are probably one in the same and the difference due to the way handwriting looked on Felix's certificate vs. on Stella's. Stella is the equivalent of Stanislawa.
1930 Cuyahoga County, Cleveland living at 7304 Aetna
MICHALSKI, Stanley, 53, married at age 27, b, Poland, immigrated 1913
Stella, 43, married at age 17, b. Poland, immigrated 1914
Considering the age difference between the above Stanley and Stella, the 1920 census entry for a Stanley and Stella at 3935 E.67th is probably the same ones who later lived on Aetna. There were no children listed in 1920, either.

Notes:
Celia lived on E.71st just north of Fleet Ave. in the 1970's. She is the one whom I interviewed and obtained a lot of family background as she was very familiar with the Wanicki family and had hung around with one of the sisters (Isabel, I think).
