- Anthony (Antoni) CZACHERSKI b. 13 Apr 1860, Borkowa, Sierpc, Plock, Poland; d. 16 Nov 1939, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA.
Notes:
BIRTH:
Anthony's birth date was given as June 13, 1867 on his death certificate.
The date of 1860 was obtained from his naturalization record. This date fits with his immigration information too (as found on the ship manifest) which shows him as 32 years old in 1892.
The informant on the death certificate was Bertha Josefkowicz (his daughter).
IMMIGRATION:
From the Ellis Island website:

CENSUS: 1930, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, OH; ED 241, pg 5b
CIACHERSKI, Anton age 68, b Poland Step-father-in-law
family: Jozeifkowicz (that's a guess), Walter & Bertha
address 4131 E 57th St.
Ship manifest lists Antoni (32) Czacherska travelling with Anna (36) and Bromiol (Bertha?) age 7. IF this is the same Anthony as our family's, it explains the link with Bertha, though doesn't really explain if she was real child of his or step-child. My family notes show that Bertha was raised by the Czacherski's.
Took care of the Wanicki children while Vincent was working. They didn't like him because he was frequently drunk. Their opinion of him was that he was a dirty, old man. He was a widower at this time.
Anthony was the Godfather of Isabel Wanicki (Pauline Cywinski was the Godmother. Pauline was Anthony's sister-in-law.).
OCCUPATION:
For at least a few years, he was caretaker at St. Mary's Cemetery on E.71st St. Unable to verify this. St. Mary's has no employment records.
DEATH:
Broncho-pneumonia. Informant was Bertha (Witwer) Josefkowicz of 4131 E.57th St. (his ward).
BURIAL:
Date of death is totally unknown but it would have to be after 1930 because he baby sat the Wanicki children and the mother died that year and it is only because of her death that Anthony's services would have been needed by Vincent. And, since he is in the 1930 census, his death would have to be after that year (he was 68 years old at the time).
[UPDATE -- his death certificate was found which shows that he died in 1939.]
I believe he is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, E. 71st St., Cleveland, OH.. I called the cemetery 12 March 2003 to inquire if he was in their records but was told that all records prior to 1935 were lost in a fire. In any case, early records (I was told) were very sketchy, anyway. (Note: Infants were recorded in an Interment Log but no index cards were made out for them. Not that that is pertinent to this individual. I just include that information for future researchers.) It would require an extensive search of the gravestones to find him and/or his wife.
Anthony m. Aniela (Anna) KENSICKI, (Kesicki) 1890, Poland. Aniela (daughter of Joseph KENSICKI and (Female) PIOTROWSKI) b. 20 Jul 1854, ,, Poland; d. 6 Feb 1918, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA. [Group Sheet]

Generation: 2
- Bertha WITWER, (Witfer)
(1.Anthony1) b. 3 Jun 1882, Poland; d. Feb 1958, Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA.
Notes:
This family is included in the database because Anthony Czacherski lived with them in 1930 and was listed as a "step-father-in-law". At this time, I am unsure of how this relationship fits into the family but wanted to make note of the information in case it becomes important sometime in the future when other facts surface.
MARRIAGE:
Application lists WITWER, BRONISLAU and JAZEPKOWICZ, LADISLAS vol.0047 pg.0294
There is also an application around this same time in history that makes me wonder if this woman could be Bertha's sister?
WITWER, ANTONIE and BRATKOWSKI, BERNARD 0057 0010
IMMIGRATION: Arrived 1898 per 1920 census
RESIDENCES: 1920 - 4131 E. 57th St., Cleveland, Ohio
CENSUS:
1920 census has a Michael (63) and Mary (51) Witwer at 332 Beech St., Middleburg, Ohio with a Bertha V. Witwer age 31 living with them. No relationship is shown other than an "X". Not sure what to make of that. Her occupation is listed as a teacher. She was born in Ohio, so this is probably NOT the Bertha in this database.
OBIT:
Name: Josefkowicz, Bertha

to Deborah Beigie-Murphy - I am your mother, Eleanor's, first cousin. Your grandfather, James, is an older brother of my father, Anthony. Your grandfather, Walter Jozefkowicz, spelled his name as Wladislaw, before coming to the U.S. His birthday was 8-11-1879. He married Bertha Witwer, dob 6-3-1882, on 1-18-1901, in St. Casimer's church in Cleveland, OH. They lived, briefly, in Muncie IN, when your grandfather was a little boy. Bertha's birth name was Bernice, but someone at immigration decided she should be Bertha and changed that record. She told me this when I was 10 years old, so I don't doubt it at all. Your grandfather's middle name was Maximillian, do you have that listed? Your Aunt Carol told me that when your cousin, Jimmy, was born. I would like to know what year your Grandmother, Stella was born - I know her birthday was 2-14, because I sent her birthday cards. (That is also your cousin Dawn's birthday. I'm hoping to hear from you).
Sincerely, Toni Lempner

Celia lived on E.71st just north of Fleet Ave. in the 1970's. She is the one whom I interviewed and obtained a lot of family background as she was very familiar with the Wanicki family and had hung around with one of the sisters (Isabel, I think).
