FROM "THE MICHAEL SHOEMAKER BOOK" ON THE DESCENDANTS FROM LUZERNE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA:
"THE THOMAS SMITH FAMILY
Thomas Smith, who was married to Mary Green, settled in Newport Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He was of that township, Nov. 10, 1790, when, with William Hebard, he bought from Zachariah Hartsouff of Kingston Township and Hanover, two acres of land situated on the main road through Hanover (perhaps Solomon's Creek), "beginning on the westerly line of Lot No.8, First Division of Hanover," together with all privileges to operate stills and potash works and all the utensils, etc. He was of Hanover Township, Aug. 11, 1791, when he bought from Captain Caleb Bates of Pittston, 300 acres of the "Gore" and lying between Exeter, Providence, Pittston and the Lackawanna River, and bounded by the Pittston and Exeter lines and by lands of Constant Searl. He removed to the "Gore" and there spent the remainder of his life. He is referred to in a deed drawn by Dr. William Hoover Smith as Captain Thomas Smith. With his wife, Mary (Green) Smith, born in June, 1736, died Jan. 2, 1810, he is buried in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea, Pennsylvania, his grave being marked by a tombstone, the face of which has flaked off. Two of the children of Thomas and Mary (Green) Smith were their sons, 1, Eliphalet, and 2, Deodat."

Notes:
Served in the Revolutionary war. Served with Captain Willey's company,Col. Spencer's regiment at the Lexington Alarm. Those who responded tothe Lexington Alarm in New England fell into two general categories;those who lived close to Boston and responded to the night time call fromPaul Revere and others (like the Faxon's of Braintree) and those furtheraway who heard days or weeks later. It is believed that the men ofHartford and Windsor heard about the battles of Lexington and Concord oneday after they had occurred. Those of this second group formed the armywhich fought at Bunker (Breed's) Hill and occupied the Dorchester heightswith General Washington which eventually forced the British from Boston.

Notes:
Research and source notes: Deborah Sweet -
1)There is a Third Mayflower connection (others are through ALDEN &
MULLINS via SOUTHWORTH), through the FULLERline, (said FULLER line also
connecting with the ROWLEY line). More work needs to be done to verify -
ie, documentation. It is on various ROWLEY & FULLERonline sites, showing
her ancestry as given in this report.
Edward FULLER>Samuel Fuller m. Jane (Lathrop)>John Fuller m. Mehitable
(ROWLEY, sis of Moseswho m. Mary Fletcher and was the Gr.Gfthr of
Ithamar Rowley, Dimmis's Husband)>John Fuller m. Mary Cornwall>Esther
Fuller m. Stephen GATES>Dimmis Gates m. Ithamar Rowley
This line makes Dimmis & Ithamar 2nd cousins, ie., their Gr.Grandparents
were brother and sister.
2) DOD - a. not later than 12/20/1825 -based on her Husband,
Ithamar Rowley's Will/Estate papers (see his notes forcomplete
transcription), being the date the will was written. No mention ismade
of wife, or former wife, or deceased wife Dimmis in any of the papers
relating to the 'will of real estate of Ithamar Rowley'. b. CEMETERY
VISIT, 7/7/01 - She is buried next to Ithamar, her stone is so badly
deteriorated, and had been poorly repaired at one time, that the dates
are almost impossible to make out. It reads as follows:
Sacred to the memory of Dimmis consortof Ithamar Rowley, Deceased
?September, October?, day is illegible, 182--(covered by badly rusting
iron strap), Aged 71 years, 10 months, --day(s?).
From the "Aged" given, I extrapolated the DOD to have been in either
Septemberor October of 1824, based on her verified DOB, even though the
stone COULD say April 11, but this is impossible to say with certainty. A
check of the cemetery records needs to be made. The 1824 date does fit in
with the above reasoning that she must have died before Ithamar made his
will in 1825.
c. DAR appl. of Dorothy Rowley (op cit, see Esther
Fuller notes) give DOD of 1/31/1829- I believe that the year was misread
off the stone, and that the 1829 should be 1824, again, because Ithamar's
1825 will does not name her at all. The 1/31 may be correct. It is to be
noted, however, that all other dates pertaining to Ithamar and Dimmis are
correct on the application.
3) The births of all of the children are in the Barbour Collection
for Chatham, Vol. 6, p. 137
4) Dimmis's birth is recorded at Middletown. Barbour Collection, Vol.

Notes:
FROM "THE MICHAEL SHOEMAKER BOOK" ON THE DESCENDANTS FROM LUZERNE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA:
"THE THOMAS SMITH FAMILY
Eliphalet, son to Thomas and Mary (Green) Smith, was born about 1773 and died June 22, 1840. He served as a Corporal in the Connecticut Service in the War of the American Revolution and in 1820 his name was on the pension roll of the Federal Government. He was commissioned Coroner of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania by Governor Simon Snyder, Oct. 29, 1813. February 4, 1814 he bought from Calvin Cone of Providence, Pennsylvania, an innkeeper, the 200 acre farm where Calvin Cone then lived in Providence, and which Robert Secor sold to Calvin Cone, May 26, 1809. He sold this farm, October 2, 1814, to his brother, Deodat Smith. It appears the Eliphalet Smith inherited one-half of the lands owned by his father, Thomas Smith, and in 1832 executed a partition deed with his brother, Deodat Smith, who in June 16, 1855, bought these lands from Eliphalet's heirs. On February 9, 1832, Eliphalet Smith bought from Deodat Smith about 160 acres of the Andrew Henderson patent in what is now Old Forge Township. His heirs sold these lands to Erastus, son of Deodat Smith. Eliphalet Smith was married to Jerusha Dolph, born June 16, 1780, died February 19, 1852. They are buried in Marcy Cemetery in Duryea, Pennsylvania. The will of Eliphalet Smith was made in Lackawanna Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania on June 21, 1840, and was probated at Wilkes-Barre on August 29, 1840, and refers to his wife as living. It names the following children: (1) Abraham Bradley Smith, a tanner and currier, lived at Carbondale, Pennsylvania, in 1844 and later removed to what is now the E.W. Larrish property located at Eight Street in Wyoming, Pennsylvania, married to Catharine B. Peck, died in Wyoming, Pennsylvania and buried in Cayuga County, New York; (2) Anson G. Smith married to Mary Ann Pierson, died in Newark, New Jersey; (3) Tracey E. Smith, married to Maria T. Rosencrans, lived and died in New York State; (4) Asa D. Smith, a tanner and currier, at Carbondale, Pennsylvania, married to Polly Griffin, whose children were: (1) Thomas Griffin, married to Helen E. Tralles, for many years station agent for the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company of Carbondale, Pennsylvania, (2) Jerusha, married to John H., son of William Bowers of Carbondale, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Polly (Griffin) Smith was remarried to Thomas Orchard who was a Master Car Builder for the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company of Carbondale, Pennsylvania; (5) John M. Smith, born January 20, 1821 and died May 6, 1884, and remained unmarried. John was buried in March Cemetery in Duryea, Pennsylvania; (6) Lucina Smith who is probably the oldest daughter who married Joseph, son of John and Mary (Heron) Gardner, who lived at Hopbottom, Pennsylvania, and had three sons: Eliphalet, John and Washington, and five daughters; (7) Mary Smith born September 29, 1803 and died June 24, 1841 and is buried in the Marcy Cemetery in Duryea, Pennsylvania. Mary was married to George Oyster, who had been married to Catharine Stiles. Two of the children of George and Mary (Smith) Oyster were: (1) Martha (Oyster) Clum and (2) Matilda, married to Joseph, born March 24, 1819 and died December 24, 1893 (buried in the Forty Fort Cemetery), son of William and Mary (Hawks) Mitchell. Mrs. Lambkin, lived in New York State. Eliphalet Smith gave his "rifle gun" to John M. Smith and his "musket gun" to Asa D. Smith. Dr. Lumbkin was a Methodist preacher in 1842 and a classmate of Rev. George C. Thomson.
In Elder Davis Dimock's Diary under to date of December 12, 1821, he wrote: "Cosin Eliphalet Smith came to see me." Perhaps this is a reference to Eliphalet, son of Thomas and Mary (Green) Smith. If Elder Davis Dimock, son of David and Sarah (Green) Dimock and Eliphalet son of Thomas and Mary (Green) Smith, were cousins their mothers were probably sisters."
