88 1887 Captain Adam Poe stated that Lillie died 2 years earlier (1885) at age 97. Lillie left descendants through her grandchildren and is buried at Congress, Wayne Co., OH.
Jacob Matthews of Wooster was a partner of Robert McClaren. He was also the first Justice of the Peace in Wayne Co., OH.

99 1865 27 Apr William was a soldier in the Union army [Co. F, 102nd Ohio Regt].
He was killed by an explosion on the steamer, Sultana, when the ship blew up while returning expatriated Union P. O. W.s to the North. This was near Memphis, TN on the Mississippi River.
Also killed was Majo;r James W. Carlin.

Tom, sorry, I'm not much help with the ancestory of Joseph and Jesse. I
have Joseph on the 1880 census which lists his place of birth as Ohio and
his father (Jesse) as New York, but i go no further back. The Matteson
(Madisons) are a married line for me so i don't trace them back. good luck
on your huntings. I'll post your note in the notes section of both Erdly
and Jesse and perhaps someone will have some clues for you.
