BURIAL: Buried at what has been known as the Brainard (Brainerd) Burial Ground, Brooklyn Union Burial Ground, and Broadview Cemetery. Simeon Chester, an early settler, died in 1821. The Chester plot contains a limestone marker which lists Simeon, Matilda, Betsy and Abby.

Lydia Hook - Obituary

Lydia Hook, wife of Stephen Hook (deceased) May 6th, 1885. Mrs. Hook was born in Connecticut Feb. 21st, 1821; married July 5, 1841; came to Wisconsin in the fall of 1842; has resided in the town of Oregon about 40 years. She had been a christian from childhood, and a member of the M. E. church over 50 years. She was a kind neighbor and retained the confidence of all who knew her. She evinced the fact that a christian life - a life measuring up to the profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ - is the sweetest and best on earth. Her last words to her children were, "meet me in Heaven." She suffered much during her illness but bore up with great fortitude. Seven children - four boys and three girls, - with many relatives, mourn their loss. The funeral took place from the Brooklyn church May 8th, conducted by the pastor, C. C. Swartz.
