Notes:
Research and source notes: Deborah Sweet -
1) 5/6/2001 - Correspondence with Schoharie Co., NY Surrogates Court
- there is no will/probate record on file for Demmis in Scho.Co.
2) Baptism - from www.wmn.net/rowleytw - Rowley RegistryWebsite -
Descendants of Henry Rowley:
NOTE: Ascendency of Demmis - if infoin the notes sections of her
ascendants are marked RRW, It means they are from the above website
source. I do this to keep from having to type the same thing over and
over again.
3) AKA - Dimonis per RRW - Her name is, however, Demmis - as
confirmed by her Father's estate papers which bear her signature, and her
record of marriage in the Barbour Collection for Chatham.
4) DOD - Living in Sharon, Schoharie Co., NY as w/o Osias [sic] on
4/10/1830 per signature on papers relating to her father Ithamar Rowley's
will.
- The 12/11/1852 dod is taken from Gertrude King
Mickel's DAR application, op cit.
Cemeteryvisit, June 2001 - Zion Rural/Janesville Cem.
I am not convinced that the stone next to Ithamar is Demmis's.

Research and notes - Deborah Sweet:
1) The info on Martin, Louisa and theirchildren is taken from Madaline
Wright's hand copied Bible Records from Martin Southworth's Family Bible.
At the time (abt 1937) she was doing her research, it was located at Earl
Southworth's at Fly Creek, County of Otsego, NY.
Possible middle name: George [from Mickel's DAR application]]
2) Death Documentation:
NYS Dept of Health Death Cert. #11219; No. of corresponding Entry in
Registry Book of Deaths to be inserted by the Registrar: #187; County of
Otsego, Town of Milford, at Portlandville.
Martin Southworth, Age 71 yrs 17 days;Occupation: Cooper, Leaves a wife;
Birthplace: Otsego County, NY; Father: Oziois[sic] from Vermont [there
have been what looks like erasures/changes to the document here, and also
under 'state or country', although the original would really need to be
checked]; Mother: Demi?, Vermont [ibid]
Place of Death: Town of Milford at Portlandville [there are two small
categories which areillegible, one may be asking length of residence,
looks like it says '10 yrsor more' ]
Date and Hour of Death: 16 April 1887, at about 1 am.; Joels? Jack?
Thosna?, M.D. of Portlandville, NY, signed 4/17/1887, certifies he
attended deceased from December 1885 to April 1887, last seen 4/15/1887,
died on 4/17/1887 about 1:00 am.; Chief and determining Cause of Death:
Disease of the heart, 10 year duration, and Lungs, 6 year or more
duration, of long standing.; No burial information is given on the
document - permit, date, place, undertaker unknown. [My guess is that he
was buried by the third day, so I enteredthat as date of burial. Also
that he was probably buried in Portlandville, as his wife Louisa was
shown to have been buried there, although Cemetery nameis unknown. Her
undertaker was A. Cronk of Milford. Since she died only three years
later, it may be that it is the same one who took care of Martin.]

Luce, Jr.; luceruss@mkl.com
According to Otsego Co. Genweb; taken from "EarlyHistory of the Town
of Milford and Other Parts of
Otsego Co. From 1773-1903" by Ezra Stevens; Sect.1, Chap. 1, pp. 2-52
'Portlandville had become quite prosperous, a good business and
supported three churches but no
cemetery, consequently a company was organized and the present
(written ca. 1903) Pine Grove Cemetery was established in 1861.'

Notes:
Research and source notes: Deborah Sweet -
1) Scho Co. Genweb cemetery listinggives name as Sophrona, it should
read Sophronia, per all information I have. Secondly, if she was age 44
at death, her dob would have to be 1800, not 1810. This is clearly an
error in either their reading/transcribing, which should read age 34, and
as Ozias and Demmis were not married until 1802, according to the records
I have, and Clarissa was the firstborn, with Sophronia the Fourthborn.

Research and source notes: Deborah Sweet -
1) I am not certain that all of these children belong to Ithamar, only
Lucinda, as her stone says so. They are all buried in the Kneeskern cem.
with Demmis/Dimmis, and Lucinda, her granddau. They must be some of her
other grandchildren, but more work needs to be done to verify this, and
to figure out which parents they belong to. Nor am I certain that
Margaret, w/o Nathaniel is in the correct place, only that it seems to
fit. Where HE is buried, is not yet known.

Ithamar Rowley, who is also one of 'our' Revolutionary War Veterans) and
it is a double line, secondly through Dimmis Gates's father Stephen
Gates, also a Rev. War Vet, who married Esther Fuller, a dau. of John

New Lisbon - Death ofLifelong Resident
The death of Charles M. Southworth, one of the best known and
highly esteemed residents of this place, occurred at his home Wednesday
afternoon at 2 o'clock. Although he had been in failing health for a long
timewith heart trouble and complications, his last illness was of about
three weeks duration. - He was born in the town of New Lisbon July 22,
1868, a son of Robert E. (paper says 'E', someone has written an 'S' over
it in error) andAmanda (Garlick) Southworth. For fifty or more years he
has lived at the place where he died, and conducted a blacksmith shop. A
man of sterling integrity, always ready and willing to help where his
services were needed, he will be missed not only in his home circle but
in the community where he has so long resided, and where he has served
the public for so many years. On Sept. 12,1904, he was united in
marriage with Mary Vonah Collier, who survives him and who with her son,
Lewis Collier, have so tenderly and devotedly cared for him. Beside his
wife and step-son above mentioned, he leaves a brother, Clesson P.
Southworth, of South New Berlin; a niece, Mrs. Levi George, of New
Lisbon, and one nephew, Claude R. Southworth, of Yardley, Pa. and several
cousins. The funeral was largely attended at his late home Saturday
afternoon at 2o'clock. Rev. E. K. Hutchinson, rector of Zion Church at
Morris, of which thedeceased was a member, officiated. Interment was
beside his son and parentsin the old church cemetery at Morris. The
bearers were, Erle Smith, Frank Duroe, Ernest Thurston and George Rice.
The florel tributes given by the church, family and friends were
beautiful and bore evidence of the esteem in which the deceased was held.
A multitude of friends unite with the family in mourning his demise.
NOTE: as I do not have a complete genealogy as yet, I do not know whose
children Mrs. Levi George and Claude R. Southworth are.

Cause of Death: Pneumonia of one week's duration
Research and source notes: Deborah Sweet -
1) Obit from Martin SW Bible:
"Laurens, Jan. 31[Sunday] -Miss Louise Southworth, brief notice of
whose death was in Saturday's paper, died at the family home on Friday
evening at 8 o'clock, death being due to pneumonia, which developed a
week ago following an illness of flu and other complications since
January 10. The funeral services will be held on Monday with prayer
services at the home at 1 o'clock, and funeral services at the Methodist
Episcopal Church at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Norman B. Graves of Mt. Upton, a
former pastor here and an intimate friend of the family, will officiate.
Burial will be held in Laurens cemetery. The deceased was born January
18, 1903, at the home farm about three miles north of this village;
living there withher parents until five years ago, when they moved to
this village. Followingthe death of her mother (formerly Mrs. Mary
Strait Ainslee) soon after theirremoval to the village, she assumed the
duties of housekeeper in the home giving it her most careful attention.
Surviving her are her father, Charles Southworth, and one brother,
Frederick, 12 years of age; and to these two so badly bereft the sympathy
of the entire community is extended. The deceased wasmuch loved by all,
owing in great measure to her cheery optimism and every-ready smile,
always ready and willing to do anything in her power for any justcause:
and she will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends. She was a
member of the Methodist Episcopal church and Sunday school, being
secretary of the latter, and in both these whe will be missed as but few
Sundays found her absent. She was also a member of the Laurens W.C.T.U.
and of Laurens grange. A young woman of fine attainments and much
beloved, a wide circle of friends, while bowing in submission to the
father's will, will deeply regret her demise."
