Lieut. Nicholas Cottrell, 3rd was born 1658, and died in the summerof 1727; his widow, Dorothy, was appointed to administer his estate, 13Nov 1727. He was a prominent citizen of Westerly and was one of the TownCouncilmen for several years before his death.

Based on the results of both of these research
reports, it is postulated (with strong
circumstantial evidence) that Keturah was an un-
listed daughter of Joseph and Mary (Holmes)
COTTRELL. It is also postulated that Nellie
JOHNSON in her 1937 BURDICK genealogy assumed that
Keturah and her sister, Abigail, who both
married BURDICK brothers, were sons of a Reuben
COTTRELL because Abigail named her first son Reuben
She may well have named her son after her brother,
Reuben.
Genealogists for many years have sought in vain
for a Reuben COTTRELL who could be the father of
Keturah and Abigail, with absolutely no success.
Also note the strange name Royzell//Roswell in the
Gideon BURDICK and Joseph COTTRELL family, which
can be traced back to the HOLMES family!
