Mr. Brown is a manufacturer and inventor. He has patents issued andpending for more than one hundred inventions. He is inventor of the SmithPremier Typewriter. He is president of the following companies; the SmithPremier Typewriter Co., the Brown-Lipe Gear Co. He is one of the foundersand past president of the H.H. Franklin Manufacturing Co.; stockholderand director of the Smith Premier Typewriter Co., the H. H. FranklinManufacturing Co., the Brown-Lipe Gear Co., the Syracuse Aluminum andBronze Co., the Globe Malleable Iron Works, and the Pneumelectric Co.;director of the Third National Bank, also of the Journal Printing andPublishing Co.; trustee of Syracuse University and the Hospital of theGood Shepherd; life member of the American Society of MechanicalEngineers and of the National Geographic Society; member of Citizens Clubof Syracuse, also of Century Club, Transportation Club of New York City,Automobile Club of Syracuse, and other organizations. He is athirty-second degree Mason, and a member of Mystic Shrine. He waseducated in common and select schools at Scott, NY, and at Homer Academy.He rendered financial aid in the publication of this genealogy, and alsoof Brown Genealogy, Vol. I. Residence in 1915, Syracuse, NY. At hissuggestion Vol. II, in July 1910, was commenced. Without his hartyco-operation, the compiler could never have undertaken this arduous task.This genealogy is therefore dedicated to Alexander T. Brown.
