NORWICH - Addie (Main) Garland, 78, formerly of Plain Hill Road,Norwich, died Saurday evening at the W.W. Bakus Hospital.
She was born in Ledyard, April 8, 1902, the daughter of Erastus andLottie (Fish) Main.
She attended Ledyard elementary schools. On Dec 24, 1924, she wasunited in marriage to Lyman Garland in St. James Episcopal Rectory by thelate Rev. H. M. Ockford.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Vantourof East Johnsbury, Vt. and Mrs. James (Elsie) Fowler of Norwich; a son,Lyman "Sparky" Garland Jr. of Norwich; three sisters, Miss Dora Main ofLedyard, Mrs. Henrietta Jennings of Norwich and Mrs. Peter (Lillian)Babcock of Sterling; five brothers, Elmer and Timothy, both of Ledyard,Alfred of Prfeston, Charles of Canterbury, and Walter Main of Preston;and twelve grandchildren.

ELMER O. MAIN - 1989
NEW LONDON - Elmer O. Main, 83, of 122 Montauk Ave., died Thursdayat Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Ledyard March 7, 1906, the son of John Erastus andLottie Fish Main. He married Mary Whipple Main in Ledyard April 14, 1935.
Mr. Main was retired from Electric Boat, where he was employed as amachinist. He was also a farmer, and a former member of the NationalGuard.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Rev. Richard G.Main of Dresden, Maine; four daughters, Mary Joyce Munsell of Raliegh,N.C., Dora Reece of Santa Susana, Calif., Carolyn Maslin of Huntington,Ind. and Emily D. Tull of Waukegan, Ill.; four brothers, Timothy ofLedyard, Charles of Jewett City, and Alfred and Walter Main, both ofNorwich; three sisters, Dora Main of New London, Henrietta Jennings ofNorwich and Lillian Babcock of Sterling; 12 grandchildren and 3great-grandchildren.
The funeral service and burial will be held at a time to beannounced. There are no calling hours. The Thomas L. Neilan & SonsMy6stic Funeral Home, Route One, Mystic, is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM SURBER - 1961
William D. Surber, 57, of North Stonington Road, Pawcatuck, diedMonday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Haven, Conn. Hewas the husband of the late Shirley (Blanchard) Surber.
Mr. Surber was a cab driver of Kay's Cab in Pawcatuck for manyyears.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the CentralBaptist Church.
A son of the late William F. and Violet (Maine) Surber, he was bornin Westerly Feb. 10, 1928.
Surviving are three daughters, Jean Cornell of Westerly, SusanSurber and mary Ann Surber of Pawcatuck; two sisters, Kathleen Gonsawskiof Norwich and Ruth Surber of Pawcatuck, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59Spruce St., Wednesday at 10 a.m. by Rev. Lloyd P. Frederick D.D., pastorof the Central Baptist Church. Internment will be in Rhode IslandVeterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 7 to9 p.m.
