MRS. MELISSA SPICE TO CELEBRATE 100TH BIRTHDAY.
Mrs. Melissa Spicer will quietly celebrate her 100th birthday on Friday, May 24th at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lortscher near Mazeppa, with whom she has resided for the past 20 years. Her husband, John Spicer, passed away January 26, 1914.

Mrs. Spicer is in good health, both mentally and physically, and is in very good spirits as she rocks back and forth in her favorite rocking chair holding a conversation with her many friends and relatives as they visit her.
She has two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Banick and Mrs. Robert Lortscher, seven grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Spicer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sibley, was born May 24, 1863 in Zumbro Falls, one of a family of seven, has one brother, Aulden F. Sibley, residing in White Sulpher Springs, Montana.
A centennial open house celebration is planned for her on June 9th at the Robert Lortscher home, to be later announced.
Melissa attributes her longevity to a proper diet and hard work. The chief accomplishment of her present age is to walk up the road about 1/4 mile to visit her niece. She carries her cane but seldom uses it.
