Milton - Deacon Truman Saunders, who has been failing in healthfor months diedSaturday afternoon at the residence of hisson-in-law, Professor A. R. Crandall. Deceased had been aresident of the village for many years and had the respect andesteem of the community. He died at the ripe old age of eighty.He leavesfour sons, E. B. and H. G. Saunders of this village,J. B. Saunders of Morgan Park, Ill., and a daughter, Mrs. A. R.Crandall of this place. The funeral services were held Tuesdayafternoon at the Seventh day Baptist church.

Death has taken one from our midst well known in the village ofMilton and Milton Junction, and better known in West Hallock,Peoria Co., Illinois where he helped to make that community whatit is, a thrifty God fearing people.
Deacon Truman Saunders was born in Berlin, New York Nov. 13,1814 and died Nov. 24, 1894, aged 80 years and11 day. He movedto Illinois in 1854, where he resided until he came to Miltonfifteen years ago. He bought a large tract of land in Illinoisand by industry,act and economy he succeeded in paying for andimproving his land which though sold to others is now worth $100per acre. But Deacon Saunders will be remembered not for whathe acquired of real estate, but for what he was, anunexceptionably fine man. He was of excellent stock to beginwith; received a good educationfor those days, taught school inNew Jersey when young, was afterwards a merchant and finally amodel farmer. He was successful in everything owing to hisnatural talent, application, honesty and many qualities whichcombine to render one successful in life. Above all he was aconsciencious christian, kind and gentlein his intercourse withothers and firm as a rock where any principle was involved. Heleaves a daughter, four sons and two sisters. The funeralexercises werelargely attended on Tuesday at the S. D. B.Church of which he was an esteemedmember, Rev. E. M. Dunnofficiating assisted by President Whitford.

Mrs. Dr. Badger, notice of whose serious sickness had been givenin these columns, died early last Sunday morning, June 6th, atthe advanced age of 72 years, leaving her husband and onedaughter, Mrs. Holiday, of Kansas City, Missouri, she being theonly child living. The Dr. and Mrs. Badger were among theearliest settlers in this part of the country, coming here inthe year 1872 and saw this country rise from a wilderness to arichly settled country and were known and respected by every onewho now deeply sympathize with the bereft husband who is leftalone in his declining years. The funeral occurred from thehome Monday, at two o'clock, conducted by Elder Babcock and Rev.Miles, with interment in the North Loup Cemetery.

Milton - Mrs. A. R. Crandall died at her home in Milton Sundayat 3 a. m., death being due to heart trouble. Mrs. Crandall hadbeen in poor health for a number of years.
Ellen Augusta Saunders, daughter of Deacon Truman Saunders andPhebe Wilcox Saunders, was born in Berlin, N. Y., Aug. 17, 1845,and was 78 years of age. She was the oldestof a family of sixchildren. When she was seven years old, she moved west withherparents to West Hallock, Ill., and 10 years later, at the age of17, she came to Milton, Wis., and entered Milton academy. Whilequite young, Miss Saundersshowed a talent for music which waslater encouraged and developed by study andteaching. While astudent at Milton academy, she was always active in musicalcircles. She was a student of the New England Conservatory ofMusic at Boston, Mass. On Feb. 16, 1874, Miss Saunders wasunited in marriage to Albert Rogers Crandall at West Hallock,Ill. Immediately after their marriage they went to Lexington,Ky., where Mr. Crandall held the position of assistant directorof the state geological survey, his work taking him all over thestate. Twenty years later they moved to Milton, where theylived for five years, and then moved to Alfred, N. Y., where Mr.Crandall taught in the university at that place. In 1903 theyagain returned to Milton, where they have since made their home,and where Mr.Crandall taught in Milton college up until a fewyears ago.
Mrs. Crandall united with the Seventh Day Baptist church at WestHallock, Ill., at the age of thirteen. Later, her membershipwas transferred to the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church. Shehas been an active member of the Women's Missionary board.
Mr. andMrs. Crandall had four children, one, a daughter, dyingin infancy. Those surviving, together with Mr. Crandall, areAlberta Crandall of Milton, Ellen CrandallPlace of Milwaukee,and William Truman Crandall, assistant professor in theagricultural extension department at Cornell university in NewYork.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 3, at 2:30 p. m. atthe home. The Rev. Edwin Shawof Milton will have charge of theservices. Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery.

Ellen augusta Saunders was the daughter of Truman and PhoebeWilcox Saunders, born at Berlin, N. Y., August 17, 1845, anddying in her seventy-ninth year at her home in Milton, Wis.,June 1, 1924.
Her early childhood was at West Hallock, Peoria county,Illinois, and it was there she was baptised by Rev. NathanWardner and became a memberof the Southampton Seventh DayBaptist church.
While a student at Milton Academy, where she graduated in theclass of 1867, she met Albert R. Crandall to whomshe wasmarried Feb. 16, 1874. After her graduation from the Academyshe was for a time a student in the New England Conservatory ofMusic at Boston, Mass.
She was the only daughter and the oldest of six children, thebrothers being Truman Wilcox, Edward Bates, Charles Rogers, JohnBarber and Haldane Cochrane, all ofwho have passed on beforeher.
Her husband who survives her is Professor Emeritis of NaturalHistory and Physiology in Milton College. Her brother, Edward,was known throughout the Seventh Day Baptist churches as"Missionary Secretary E.B. Saunders."
There are three children, Miss Alberta Ctandall, the principalofthe School of Music of Milton College; Ellen the wife of MarkH. Place of Milwaukee, Wis; and W. Truman Crandall, one of theprofessors in the Agricultural College of Cornell University atIthaca, N. Y.
Farewell services were held at herhome in Milton on June 3,1924, and burial was made in the Milton cemetery. She, with theother members of her family were member

Milton - On Friday afternoon, Deacon Saunders received atelegram from Milwaukee announcing that his son Truman W.Saunders had suffereda stroke of apoplexy. Mr. and Mrs.Saunders took the night train for the city,but arrived toolate, their son dieing before their arrival. The sad news sentathrill of horrer through our community, where the deceased waswell known and had a large circle of friends and acquaintances.The deceased dpent a number of years as a student here, andgraduated here. After his graduation at Williams College hebecame a member of our College Faculty, and remained here inthat capacity until he took up his residence in Milwaukee.During his connection with the college he made an extensiveacquaintance with those from abroad who were students, and amonghis fellow citizens. He was highly esteemed for his truemanlinessthrough culture and curteous manners. His untimelydeath, occuring as it did when he was entirely alone, withoutthe kind offices of wife, mother, father or friend makes it oneof the saddest occurances ever brought to our notice. His heartbroken wife and grief stricken relatives have the heartysympathy of our community in this their hour of sorrow.President Whitford and Prof. W. F. Place, a classmate of thedeceased, attended the funeral. It is probable that the remainswill be brought here for interment. The following clippings arefrom the Milwaukee Wisconsin, and Republican and News:
"Truman W. Saunders, an accound of whose sad case appeared inlast night's Wisconsin, died at 2 o'clock this morning.
It is now supposed the bursting of a blood vessel in his brainresulted from violent retching as undigested food which had beenthrown from his stomach was found by the bedside. Thephysicians say that the ??ffusion of blood was so violent thatMr. Saunders could not have been saved had medical attentionbeen summonedat the moment the vessel broke.
Mr. Saunders, who was born in Rensselaer County, N. Y., was oneof the purest and most honorable and faithful members of theMilwaukee bar. His college career was brilliant and his recordas a professor inMarkham Academy first class. He was agraduate of Alfred University, N. Y., Milton College andWilliams College, and in School and at his profession was aconspicuous and untiring student. He had practiced law threeyears in Milwaukee, and for some time had been the trustedattourney of the Wheeler & Wilson Manufacturing Company.
His wife with her father and little child will arrive from theeast tomorrow; his parents arrived from Rock County today.
Mr. Saunders was prominent member of the Allen Council, RoyalArcanum, from which order his widow will receive $3,000."

Sudden death of Rev. E. B. Saunders
At 10:45 a. m., lastThursday morning, we were greatly shockedto receive a telegram from Mrs. Saunders, then at Washington, D.C., telling of the sudden death of her husband, Rev.E. B.Saunders, from acute indigestion. We know nothing further ofthe particulars as to his last hours on earth. On the Tuesdaybefore, Secretary Saunders was in Plainfield [NJ] on his way toconference with his wife and daughter, makingthe trip to Salem,W. Va., in their automobile. It was their purpose to stop inWashington. They left here [Plainfield] Tuesday and this sadtelegram was thenext word that reached us. It states thatburial will be at Milton, Wis.
All hearts will go out in sympathy for the wife, son anddaughter so suddenly bereaved. The General Conference thatconvenes next Tuesday will deeply mourn the denomination's loss,and its sessions will be so saddened as it sits under the shadowof so great a sorrow.

Death of Secretary E. B. Saunders
The sudden and tragic death of our much beloved and faithfulsecretary while on his way to attend the General Conference atSalem in August of last year cast a shadow of sorrow upon us asa people. Accounts of memorial services, letters ofappreciation, resolutions of love and respect, actions ofvariousdenominational organizations, were published in tehSabbath Recorder of September, October and November, 1916, andmay be found by referring to Vol 81, pages 227, 272, 312, 354,377, 385, 392, 395, 396, 437, 556 and elsewhere. The board puton its records the following among other statements: "The Rev.Edward B. Saunders, eleven years the corresponding secretary forthe Seventh Day Baptist Missionary Society, died suddenly inWashiington, D. C., on the 16th day od August, 1916. The aimand effort of his life were for the salvation of lost ones. Asincere lover of men, he worked to save them. As correspondingsecretary, Brother Saunders gave his best. The Board ofManagers would record its appreciation of his strong interestand faithfulness as the representative of our missionary work,and his unwavering loyalty as a servant of Christ.

The funeral services of Rev. E. B. Saunders were held in theMilton S. D. B. church Sabbath afternoon, Aug. 19. Although theday was excessively hot, the church was crowded, prople beingpresent from Janesville, Albion, Rock River and other places, aswell as from the town villages. The College Male Quartet sang"Beautiful Land", "The Glory Song", "The Riches of Love inChrist Jesus." Pastor H. N. Jordon read the scripture lesson.Rev. Geo. W. Burdick led inprayer. Pastor L. C. Randolphpreached the funeral sermon, Pastor Jordan spokeof BrotherSaunders as leader of Christial Endeavor, and Rev. W. D. Burdickspoke in behalf of the Missionary Society. Pastor C. S. Sayreof Albion led in theclosing prayer. Pastor C. B. Loofbourrowof Walworth participated in the services at the cemetery.
