Their home, as shown in a very early illustration, was located in Original Lot 56. The deed states that the sellers were A.B. and Lydia Haight. The property description gives a size of 18 1/2 rods x 40 rods which is 305' x 600' on Rockport Road between Wm. Alcott on the east and Stephen Brainard on the west and Stephen Brainard/Ozias Fish on the south. Rockport was later renamed to [[Newburgh St.|Denison Avenue]].

An 1891 city directory lists Selwin as a piano tuner at 145 [[Newburgh St.]] with a his residence at 236 Newburgh. Both addresses are in the old style that existed prior to 1906. The 1907 city directory lists Philena living at 3715 Denison.

Selwin Babcock was born about 1820 in New York and died on the 21st of June in 1896. He was the 2nd husband of Philena Rooker Holmden whom he married on June 29, 1865 about 7 months after the death of her 1st husband, Walter Holmden.

An 1891 city directory lists Selwin as a piano tuner at 145 Newburgh St. with a his residence at 236 Newburgh. Both addresses are in the old style that existed prior to 1906. The 1907 city directory lists Philena living at 3715 Denison.
